The Crater of Aurelian City (Au-Rel-I-an)

The former mayor of Aurelian is Ambrosius Aurelianus; a kind old gentleman who has headed the city for quite a while. Still in its fledgling state, the bare bones of this settlement have grown around Ambrosius, who has worked for nearly all of his twilight years just to get the city to this point. Nobody knows how long he's been here, but most people can say that he has headed up the city since they have been around.
Yet, Time is difficult to tell on Aurea, the days are inconsistent and the years difficult to tell. The seasons are clear, but in Aurelian the winters tend to be short and not as cold as up in the mountains and forests that surround the settlement. So, it is hard to know how long the small city has even been around.

The only other big name in Aurelian is the sheriff, or what could be called the sheriff: Catena, no last name given. Catena is a scarred-up man. A Chain Devil that keeps law and order in the city with both an iron fist, iron jaw, and iron spiked chain he keeps wrapped around himself at all times. The man has put every outlaw Aurelian has ever seen either behind bars or into the ground. He wears a special sheriff badge made for him by the mayor. With a word he can turn his strikes from painful but harmless to brutally lethal. He's been criticized by the community several times for his brutality, but nobody can argue with his performance.
However recently with no warning, the entire continent got shaken up by an explosion. Those that look in the direction or Aurelian will see a Dark red mushroom cloud with black lightning in it; which imploded upon itself mere seconds later. A minute later, loud laughter and screams followed the explosion itself.
If you were to visit the town after the disaster you would have found a deep crater filled with obsidian and brimstone shards.
Recently, however, something odd has appeared. A ghost of a city has formed where Aurelian once stood, a strange half-real illusion surrounded by a powerful wall. Rumour has it a powerful lich has taken the city as there own...
