Ismalm (Ess- malm)

Ismalm is a magical frozen ore sometimes referred to as "Enchanted Ice" that can be found deep with The Great Unknown. It can be forged into weapons and armor, but without an incredible amount of strength a special pickaxe is required to mine the ore. A traditional iron or steel pickaxe becomes covered in hoarfrost before it ultimately shatters when brought against the ore veins. For the Ishirðingja it represents status as only the highest ranking members of their clans possess any.

Properties

Material Characteristics

Ismalm is an ore that looks like a deep frozen ice, flecked with an arcane glitter it has a soft blue and white color. Lighter than steel, but comparable to the strength of mythril or adamantine.

Physical & Chemical Properties

Naturally imbued with cold magics, if it is forged into weapons it deals extra cold damage and if forged into armor it provides the wearer with cold resistance. Its arcane nature allows it to be more susceptable to being enchanted.

Geology & Geography

Ismalm is found in the coldest parts of The Great Unknown. The ore veins break through the ice and eminate with a faint arcane glow.

History & Usage

Everyday use

This magical ore is used in forging weapons and armor.

Cultural Significance and Usage

Among the Ishirðingja it represents status and only the highest ranking members of their tribes possess it.

Refinement

Though it is an ore it does not require smelting in its natural state like other ores do. It can be forged directly once removed from the ore veins. Without the aid of imense levels of strength, a specialized pickaxe is required to mine the ore from the veins. These pickaxes are made of adamantine and inscribed with intriquate arcane runes that allow the wielder to mine Ismalm without their pickaxe being coated in hoarfrost and shattering.
