Crimson Layer Manipulation

The Crimson Layer is a sensory aura that exists in Aurora (apart from Azure Town, which has the Cerulean Layer) and Earth. The existence of the Layer in both these locations allows for the transfer of information via Rifts. This is done by "shifting" it in small but powerful ways in order to create a specific sensory stimulus that can be picked up by a device programmed to receive and interpret it.
This technology is highly complex, as it involves manipulating a metaphysical essence across what are often incredibly long distances. It requires the use of machines and devices that can pick up stimuli from the Crimson Layer. The stimuli used counts as a programming language in its own right, since it is often use to alter and update the software on the device receiving it.

Utility

Apart from long-distance communication, Crimson Layer manipulation is also used in therapy to ease anxiety and help patients feel more grounded. It can also be used for non-verbal communication between Variants. This method of communication has been utilized by Libertas in order to send messages to each other undetected.
Attempts have been made to use this technology to communicate with Simone, with limited success.

Crimson Layer manipulation is mainly used by Scholars to transmit messages and information from Citadel to Earth and vice-versa. However, there are several applications for the technology which allow it to be used in other areas such as medicine.
