After 100 years of tending to the world, Dawn and Dusk breathed life into Auros, from whence came the Four Winds: the North Wind, cold and strong, the South Wind, hot and dry, the East Wind, biting and bitter, and the West Wind, warm and gentle.
Dawn and Dusk continued to hold Auros in their arms, still spinning it slowly and covering it in light and darkness in turns. Over the ages, the great egg filled with oceans, and from these oceans rose mountains and hills.
The North Wind blew icy cold over his territory, turning mountains into glaciers, while the South Wind covered his realm in burning air, which blasted the hills into dunes of sand. The East Wind swept up ocean waters into the air and brought rain down over the lands, while the West Wind danced in the valleys, guiding waters into rivers, streams, and lakes. For a time all was well, but it was not long before the winds began to argue.
With no other companions and nothing else to do, they waged war upon each other. The North Wind blasted shards of ice, the East Wind tried to drown his brothers, and the South Wind suffocated them with his heat. The West Wind tried to appease his brothers' tempers, but when he failed (as often he did), he played messenger among them.
One day, during an especially violent time, one of the brothers threw a strike at another, but instead of hitting one of the winds, it hit the borders of the world, cracking the shell of the great egg. The nothingness that surrounded the Egg and Dawn and Dusk began to seep in through the cracks. To protect the world, the Four Winds banded together and built great mountains to cover the cracks by blasting sand with heat, or blowing freezing wind over mud and rain.
The Dawn lay her body around the largest crack in the East, while the Dusk lay his body by the West, both curving their arms and legs to ensure that cracks to the North and South were well tended, too. The spinning of the world slowed considerably, so much that the time of light and the time of darkness were much longer.
Despite all their efforts, there were tiny cracks in the egg's shell that could still not be covered. Through these places, the nothingness came through, bringing despair, illness, destruction, and war with it. Every place they drew near got sucked into the void, making it bigger as it moved. When Dawn and Dusk learned of this, they created sentinels, Mex and Roa, to carry beacons of light--the sun and the moon across the sky and guard against the void.
