Personal history
Chyp is a Machina, created a few (28) years after the Forging, by his father and the Machina Primarch, Kog. His life consisted of helping his father with diplomatic duties until about 354PC.
As Chyp understands, his father discovered that the Key’s original guardian had gone mad, and that she intended to use the Key to destroy the Aether: the ancient magic which protects Aurum from demonic intruders. The Machina had no choice but to slay the corrupt guardian, whose aura had become so tainted that her death poisoned the forest and crops of the surrounding lands, rendering Fervidas forever uninhabitable. Those machina who survived the battle found the old guardian’s corruption had also infected the Key, which had to be melted down and reforged to restore its purity.
Chyp, his father, and his father's closest advisor devised a secreted location to stow the artifact in case it might one day be needed. Skeptical of trusting an outsider with its protection, Kog appointed Chyp as its new guardian. For a time, Chyp protected it and enjoyed regular visits from his father. As the years went by, they became less frequent, and eventually stopped altogether.
Seemingly forgotten, Chyp remained loyal to his duty and protected the in the Altar of the Key for 322 years before a group of interlopers arrived and attempted to steal the artifact. Outnumbered by a band of casters wielding powerful weapons, Chyp was defeated, but before they could land the final blow, Chyp activated a contingency spell that shattered the key and teleported its fragments to Guardian-Heirs that Kog had preemptively appointed around Aurum. Thinking him dead and the artifact destroyed, they simply left.
Trapped in a destroyed body in a secret vault beneath the earth, Chyp laid in the abandoned Altar for hundreds of years before the Order of the Key found him. Overjoyed to not be alone, and thinking them to be the Guardian Heirs finally come to save him, he willingly informed them of some of the Key fragment’s locations. Only when they used the first Key fragment they found to perform a demonic sacrifice did Chyp realize these were not the guardian-heirs. He then began wasting the Order’s time as much as possible, sending their scouts on wild goose chases and claiming he needed more aurastone to power his divination attempts, which the Order (to his dismay) happily provided. (5th of Chorus, 997PC)
Only a few months later, he was rescued by Black Sand Company's 3rd Squadron, thankfully before the Order could coerce him into revealing any further locations. It wasn't until he came into contact with his uncle, Axyl, that he found out the reason why his father stopped visiting: Kog and his closest advisors were assassinated in 625PC, and no one outside of that circle of advisors knew of the Key's secreted-away location.
