Children Born of Darkness
The 'Brothers of Vess' was the name given to the dark cult of warlocks that lurked beneath Holdenglade's city streets. Under cult leader Marko Turei, the group, in the early days, stalked the city looking for sacrifices that would please their collective patron, Vess. Always cloaked in purple robes with hoods that cast shadows over their faces, the cult quickly gained infamy within the city walls as a sect not to be trifled with; a warning not to walk Holdenglade's streets after dark.
In 529 AXR, under supposed orders of Vess, the Brothers diverted their focus to resurrecting a long dead Beholder that lay far beneath the city: a threat that would leave Holdenglade in ashes - just as Vess would have wanted. In order to bring their creation back to life, the cult began abducting members of the city above with desirable characteristics (such as folk blessed with ancient Dragonblood).
However, their plans quickly came to a halt following the disappearance of the Vampire Lord Anton De La Vére's daughter, Zelèna. The Baron swiftly hired the Masters of the Nine Elements, a rebel group of adventurers who had previously helped smuggle warship blueprints out of Ablefell, to find his daughter - and in the coming weeks, they followed the trail left behind by the cult to Reaver's Keep, and eventually, the undercity. Turei and the other members of the cult were all slain during the ritual, along with their precious Beholder Titan soon after.
