Artist

You have a talent for producing works of art in a particular medium. You see yourself not as an entertainer or performer, but as a creator. You pursue your art with lofty ideals, motivated by abstract notions such as beauty and truth. Your art is likely inspired by deep philosophical questions, and as such, you tend to have a unique insight into people and society. You may be a playwright or poet, a sculptor or painter, or a musical composer.   Skill Proficiencies: Two of your choice from among Insight, Perception, Performance, and Sleight of Hand   Tool Proficiencies: Two artisan's tools of your choice.   Starting Equipment: A set of artisan's tools (one of your choice), a bottle of black ink, a quill, a bound sketch book half-full of images, a set of traveling clothes, and a pouch containing 15 gp.

Feature: Wealthy Patron

Many artists rely on the patronage of a wealthy person, someone who is eager to support their unique artistic vision. You are fortunate enough to have such a patron. You produce works of art for them and in return they provide you with a modest stipend and accommodation when you require. A patron will pay for the costs of production and display your art, and through them you may gain fame or renown. This relationship will come to an end if you as an artist do not produce art for your patron, or displease them with your efforts. In that case, you are free to seek out a new one. It will damage your reputation, however, if you continue to abuse the goodwill of your patrons.

Suggested Characteristics

Successful artists are inspired or animated by a creative spirit, and are passionate about what they do. Regardless of their overall philosophy, they tend to be very opinionated about the ideals represented and embodied in their art, and often see themselves as romantic or tragic figures.

Variant Feature: Uncanny Likeness

You hold savant-like capabilities when it comes to capturing the world around you through your art. You can faithfully reproduce the likeness of any creature or person you have seen recently through your art or prose. Anyone who knows or has seen that person or creature will recognize your depiction. You can also use this ability to flatter your muse and make him or her take a liking to you, possibly facilitating an offer of information, shelter, or valuable praise.
