Obsidian Monastery

Purpose / Function

The Obsidian Monastery sits at the heart of Valgarde and its central location allows the Justicars to respond to threats throughout the empire swiftly. The Monastery is home to the Obsidian Council, Senior Justicar Knights who oversee the selection, training and deployment of their junior brothers. Atop the tallest spire is the chamber The Lord Justicar who is final judge and arbiter of any dispute or investigation.    It is in the halls of the Monastery that the Rigors of Arcadence are conducted and new Justicars are made.    The main hall also contains a Teleportation Circle that links it to the Capital, this is operated by some of the most powerful sanctioned mages of the empire.

Alterations

Since its founding the order of Justicars has grown its numbers significantly and several new wings have been added to the monastery, the teleportation chamber was finished only 20 years ago.

Architecture

It is a monochrome and imposing building in a high gothic style. Its construction intended as a warning to the apostate and harsh salvation to the people of Valgarde. It halls and chambers bear high ceilings and it houses a dungeon with enough cells for over 100 prisoners awaiting trial. The central chamber is a grand audience hall where the entire brotherhood can convene with space to spare.

History

The Obsidian Monastery was built 2 years after the last great demonic invasion in the newly founded city of Argent's Gate to act as the central investigation and enforcement organisation of the Empire.

Tourism

Besides the Justicars and other imperial officials the only people to see the inside of the monastery are usually in antimagic chains bound for trial or execution.
