Stick Badlands
"No one else wanted this land, but a disparate smattering of different humanoid species, outcast from the rest of the worlds, found themselves here and created a Stick civilization which is profoundly cosmopolitan in the most unique of ways." - from the journals of Old Jass
Geography
The God's Foote Gorge and other Stick Nation locales are a rough badlands where little flourishes and most would rather not settle. This rugged terrain may have deterred Elves, Humans, and Dwarves, but it was inviting for meta-humanoid races such as the Tabaxi, Tortle, Kenu, and (most importantly) the Aarakocra.
The God's Foote Gorge seems to enhance the ability of avians living there. They seem to be able to fly longer, faster, and are more fierce. Some call this effect the Beakmother's blessing but even upon the death of the Old Gods, the effect persists. While many who live in the Steppes know of this, it is considered taboo to talk of it.
History
Ancient Era
It was the Aarakocra that originally settled the area, finding that their war-like enemies from the Blythetalon Plains could not effectively reach them on the steep cliff edges. It was after they had tamed the wilds that the other races popular to the area (Tortle, Kenku, and Tabaxi) made their way there. What is commonly referred to as Stick culture, could be more accurately described as Aarakocra culture. This includes the colourful pallet, adventurous life-style, strong martial prowess, and fierce loyalty. The Stick Nation is the only known nation of avians to exist in any of the planes as they most commonly live in small tribes or clans.Ancient Era
