The Infinite Edge
They decided to shut down our division and end the research project. After everything we've discovered! There is so much more out there beyond the stars. Within the darkness of space, there are sights both wonderous and morose in the darkness. And yet they've taken our research away, taken my research away. The secrets I learned from those that dwell within spurred discoveries the likes of which few could ever achieve. And yet because fools fear what dwells within I must lose everything? No, no, I refuse. I will look into the long dark and learn all that is needed to be known.
Geography
Not much is known about space as a whole, even with the help of Eternals and beings that could explore the outer reaches of it. However, what is known is that beyond the systems of stars and nebulas exist areas of space where nothing could truly live. And where long periods of time could drive even an immortal mad. It has been coined as the Infinite Edge, stretching as far as the edge of the known universe. There are two known regions of the Infinite Edge:
- The Central Darkness: A section of the edge that exists in what some scholars to be potentially the center of the universe. It is hypothized that a large black hole of levels yet unknown and unseen exists in the region. And judging by what few travelers near that region have said, that could be the densest known amount of Outer Things in that reason. But for what reason is unknown.
- The Avestran Cluster: The sector of space where Avestra and Aeternum are located. This region is restricted to just their solar system but there are planets known to be in the region such as the hive worlds of refugees species taken over by Aberrations.
Fauna & Flora
Little is known to live in this area but it has been highly theorized that Outer Things, powerful unknowable entities of the Infinite, are able to exist in this void. Most of them are in a slumber that has been uninterrupted since it began for most. Some have awakened and are known as the X'ith'ila supposedly. Others are kept in their slumber and tapped into for power. However, no one has any idea when these beings came to be or what might happen if they all awaken.
History
If the Eternals are to be believed, the Infinite Edge was the boundaries of the universe after the creation by the first Eternals. After the disappearance of Aeternum, everything started expanding in all directions and there were clusters of existence such as where Avestra would be and where eventually Aeternum would return. However, these sectors where nothing remained likely became inhabitanted by something unknownable as the X'ith'ila and the Aberrations came from areas hidden within the Infinite Edge. Most still needs to be discovered by those who wish to explore beyond just their world, especially as some Eternals not bound to Avestra are searching for the homeland of those who were dumped on Avestra or taken from their home realm.
