Player Handbook in Avethia

tl;dr

Nearly everyone has access to at least some rudamentary magic. Humans are 90% of the global population. Environment is mostly like Earth except some places that are extra or untameable. The gods literally walk the earth and rule Godseats. Most countries "get along" enough because they frankly have enough to worry about. Goblins are bad, monsters exist.

Earth Like Environments

You can expect deserts, seas, hills, plains, mountains, trees, agriculture and even most flora and fauna to reflect and behave like you would experience on Earth. However, there are environments where the similarities breakdown. The Cinder Seat is a volcano in the center of a massive mountain range that's been spewing ash for centuries. The Wastes are a section of {continent_name} where death and decay are a way of life and only mushrooms are the viable crop.

Post Apocolyptic

In order for there to be ruins, something has to be ruined. There have been many eras and ages before this time. It's a common occurance for a land slide or a new well to reveal an undiscovered civilization or prepper's bunker containing destructive protections or societially unbalancing resources. It happens so often there's even a term for it. "Unsettling the past." Why do civilizations keep falling? The gods and their petty battles.

Gods and Magical Domains

Refer to The gods fight from time to time over the streams of power that fill these lands. Different regions seems to affect certain magical domains more than others. It's typically in these lands the gods create and maintain the Godseats, a city state run by and defended by a god. Gods fall to new more powerful gods and the new god seizes the domain of the fallen foe. Almost always, the god wants to "impress upon the mortals their power" and will create a hostile situation for human kind. Joy.

Human Populations

The globe is riddled with humans. Extremely adaptable to lots of environments. They either adapt to it or change the environment to suit their needs. There are two known enclaves of the Elves with their fine perfect cities, and the dwarves are "about," usually in some wild natural place like the deep forests, loft mountains or ensconced in the Cinderseat.

Inate and Supernal Properties

There's no real difference to most people between science and magic. The academic nerds draw the line along "inate" properties and "supernal" properties. For example, a frog expresses simple scientific properties across all examples of its species. Those common properties are scientific. When a frog gets too close to a demonic rupture and changes into a slaad, it becomes magical. All humans have certain characteristics different from that of elves and dwarfs like their stamina, creativity, longevity, single hearts and under developed stomach. But depending on the circumstance, a human might manifest talent with magic. There are those who argue because magic is so common, the ability to use magic should be considered an inate trait specific to humans... but that's for the nerds to fight over.

Common Magic

Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic. In this world, magic, as we would call it, is very common. The magic mouth spell has been converted into a simple intercontinental switch board. Some of the more developed cities have automated magical defences from ward and hallowed ground. Most people use one or two enchanted pieces of magical equipment every day or hope to upgrade from their regular plow to a plant growth enhanced Jane Buck plow in the next few years. There are entire manufactories dedicated to producing comoditity enchanted goods for the masses where wizards spend a normal 11 hour work day hunched over enchanting tables producing products.

Godseats

Every god has a city they inhabit and call their regional domain. The gods can be seen walking the streets, taking {demands but a better word}, bestowing power to the faithful, ruling on states affairs and defending the borders. However, the power and influence of that god has a very specific radius from their {phiactory} depending on their strength. The power of a god can wax and wane which leaves the Godseats to have some iconic patterns like circular walls, concentric gates and cardinally pointed towers. While living in Godseats holds many advantages, the looking doom of the chosen God falling to another and the magic and power of a God being put out like a light, often leads to people developing just outside of the Godseats and instead doing business within.

Technology level

There are essentially two types of people. Those who live in wealthy cities whose economy is export based and whose who are just trying to get their farms plowed. In the cities, there is a lot of magical influence and enchantments. This is very controversial for two reasons. The first is the history of magic being greatly unreliable during a battle between gods. But, these are rare events and quickly fall out of common political cycles. Additionally, the records indicate this risk is far greater in Godseats.

Economies

{The predominant countries} primarily focus on internal stability and gathering resources. Humans replicate quickly and it is in the interest of a state to build out strong foundations. Having been reduced to a baser people combined with the council and wisdom of the immortal elves has lead to long term planning and sturdy cultural traditions where the common good is generally top of mind for the current generations. This leads to a large portion of the economy being tied up in taxes and funding public works in most nations. Some nations are funded by a specific resource unique to their region, like {} or {}. And some nations are lucky enough to have a Godseat within their borders which accelerates trade and economic growth. Other economies are more classically based on industry, agriculture and tourism.

World Feel

Given a grittiness scale of Battlestar Galactica and Star Trek, this world lands pretty squarly at Stargate. There are things in this world that will kill you without thinking about it, places hostile to all life, and secret societies who don't like the lovey dovey status quo and see you as an obstacle. However, most folks are just trying to do their best, to build up bastions for future generations, and to live as good a life as they can.
