Automaton Uprising

In 1102 AC, the kingdom of Coppervale was thrown into chaos when a group of Automated Mining Drones (AMD's) gained sentience and demanded better treatment from their caretakers. At first, the mining overseers ignored the strange machines but when the automatons refused to work, military troops were sent in to deal with the problem.
The drones fought back with surprising strength and cunning, catching everyone off guard. It was also discovered that they had figured out how to make more drones from scavenged materials and the fighting grew in scale. In Glimmerwell, a number of tunnels were collapsed and hundreds of gnomish civilians were lost. The fighting never reached Dumati but precautions were taken there anyway. The conflict finally came to an end after more than a decade as the last of the AMD's were taken offline.
At some point during the conflict, a group of Automatons fled the country and made their way to Skarlos. There, the mechanists and naturalists fashioned them new bodies made partially of living wood and the Warforged race was born.
