Chivit Continent

I've always said that the Chivit Continent should be called the 'Continent of Life' ever since I walked its shores. - Artur Neha, Traveler

Overview

Chivit is primarily known for having the largest rain-forest in the world, The Anestri'for. One of the dangers of the continent is the not-insignificant presence of undead, which concentrate around the many ruins hidden within the thick, green jungles of the continent. The area is also bathed in an unusually dense arcane auras, which have given rise to various strange, magical plan and animal life. For example, certain plants freeze themselves in spite of the hot and humid climate. Other plants are perpetually ablaze. Still others float just above the canopy of trees where only flying fauna and the like can get at them.

Hidden Ruins

While the continent would appear to have always been the sole domain of wildlife, it was not always the case. Amaya's expedition had found the ruins for what appeared to have been a large Ancient city on the eastern coast. Notes from that same expedition refer to an encounter with natives of the continent who have claimed that there are many ruins within the Silvan Jungle, and that those are only the ones that are found. There could be many more structures that have yet to be discovered.

Sources of Life

As local legend tells it, the vast array of life on Chivit Continent may only be possible due to the magical auras produced by seven large floating sky-islands that can be found around the continent. These sky-islands are said to contain crystals that protects and encourages life on the continent. There exists a difference of opinion concerning the nature of these crystals. Some say the crystals are a source by themselves, and others believe they are merely a conduit of some greater power within the forest. This power could even be the rain-forest itself. Captain Amaya noted that at times the forest seemed to behave with a singular will, though she could not be certain.   Some scholars contend that, even without the influence of magic, the jungle would exist regardless. Some are wont to point out that magic is not the end all and be all of every occurrence in the world. That being said, it is certainly capable of amplifying what already exists.

Geography

The continent is the greenest there is. While it is easy to say that the continent is almost entire covered by The Anestri'for it would not be further from the truth. Most of the continent is covered in a large forest, but if it is anything like other continents then it will have its desert spots. Amaya's expedition has already confirmed that the continent has high mountains with a climate unique to their slopes. Amaya's travels southward along the western coast of the continent has noted a gradual shift from jungle climate to a savanna climate. There are even spots along the western coast that bear similarities to Quassus' temperate environment.

Fauna & Flora

It is a fool's errand to attempt to count the number of flora or fauna that exists in Silva. As far as us mortals are to be concerned, the number is limitless. - Artur Neha, Traveler

Fauna Overview

The Chivit Continent is home to a vast array of wildlife. There are varieties of birds, bugs, snakes, fish and beasts that would be entirely alien anywhere else in the world. There is also a not-insignificant presence of undead that are concentrated in and around many ruins. Such ruins are hidden within the thick, green jungles of the continent.   One of the most common varieties of fish in this area are the piranha, which are ravenous and travel in packs to pick off unwary prey. Giant eels are also known to inhabit the region's waters and are capable of stunning prey with a shocking surge of energy. Speedy leeches are another danger of the waters of the continent. Some leeches are small, but others are large enough to drain a man's blood by itself.   Bugs have the most curious adaptations in this part of the world. Amaya's notes indicate that there are beetles the size of wolves that spit acid. Giant spiders are also confirmed to inhabit these lands, and they tend to cover large areas of the forest in their sticky silk, which is used to entrap any unwary beast or person.   The following is the current list of known fauna, both in the jungle and not:

Flora Overview

There are many kinds of plants on Chivit, many beautiful to behold and also deadly to the touch. Carnivorous plants are a common sight.

Note(s) from the Archivists:

Silva is as dangerous and rough as it is beautiful. I contend that the bugs were much worse than any beast we could have stumbled upon. They are downright ubiquitous, and they get everywhere. Everywhere. - Archivist Theta
