Dehur Kjol
I've only delved in the ancient Dwarven mines once, and I was lucky to have escaped. But it was a worthwhile venture to catch a glimpse of the ancient Rikki Kitadel that remains untouched since the great collapse.
Overview
The Dehur Kjol (DE-hr KH-yol) is an underground network of tunnels that is believed to be the outskirts of the Rikki Kitadel. The tunnels can be found beneath the Silver Mountains. These tunnels are in a state of decay after existing for many long years. It is believed that many of these tunnels were carved out from the rock by an ancient Dwarven people. It is difficult to determine the true extent of this once magnificent Dwarven marvel as many tunnels are now inaccessible. Dehur Kjol became uninhabited during The Great Collapse. It was rediscovered years later by the then twin Principalities of Avistar. Only a single path through the labyrinth of tunnels is used to cross through the Silver Mountains today- Dalia's Tunnel. It is the only path that could be safely secured as well as being one of the few that hasn't caved in at any point.A Haunted Mine
Monsters and other unsavory creatures, notably Specters and Undead, of all sorts are said to haunt the mines in this day and age. As such, one ought to only travel along Dalia's Tunnel or risk getting lost among the labyrinth of dark tunnels and becoming easy prey.Dalia's Tunnel
The Principality of Avistar used a part of Dehur Kjol to pass through the Silver Mountains. This tunnel, which helped to reduce travel time, became a trade route for the Principality in transporting exotic goods from the southern settlements to the northern settlements, and vice versa. It became known as "Dalia's Tunnel" after Princess Dalia Skyfire secured a relatively safe trade route through the ancient mines in 898AGC, unifying North Avistar and South Avistar in the process. Dalia's Tunnel was since secured by Avistarian guardsmen, Dwarven volunteers mostly, at key checkpoints along the tunnel. When Helia invaded these guards have disappeared, presumably to escape capture and to live to fight another day.Helia's Mine
Today, Helia is trying to resurrect the Dehur Kjol to produce gold and metal to fuel their ever growing war machine. Some believe that if the mines ever reach the production capacity of yore, then the Helian army will become more formidable than it has ever been due to the glut of resources. It is also said that the Helians are also seeking ancient technology and spells that lie hidden in the mines. Perhaps it comes as no surprise when the increasing mining activity has been met with increasing accidents. Avistar loyalists are likely to be the saboteurs involved in the accidents. Perhaps the greatest tragedy of the mines falling into the hands of the Helians is that they regard the site with much less reverence than that of the Avistarians. The attitude displayed by the new regime may lead it to greatly harm the mines in their quest for resources and ancient technology. It seems like a lot of people don't give much thought to what the Ancients left beneath the surface as much as they do what they left upon it.
Ancient Ruin
The whole network of tunnels represents a massive ruin of The Ancient Order. The walls in many places were once smooth to the touch, and were often adorned with various murals that are now in various states of decay. Ancient equipment whose functions are lost from today's knowledge can be found in abundance. Many of the shafts also hold strange pipes of a design and purpose altogether strange to current day senses. It was likely that this network of tunnels were meant to fuel the prosperity of the Ancient Dwarven Citadel. Avistar was unable to fully exploit what the mines could have given the principality. This is partly due to the Avistarians being afraid to cause great harm to the site which could result in history forever being lost. Additionally, the mines are home to many dangers that lurk within deep places. The Avistarian Army only had so much resources with which to ensure the safety of delvers and the like. Speaking of delvers, many brave souls have tried to find their fortune within the ancient Dwarven mine. Only a few emerged from it. Those who did were only able to walk away with small trinkets, but describe seeing wonders that defy belief. Wonders the delvers had no hope of removing from the mines. Today, the Helian Army has sent a full platoon led by Zesyanna Duskrarr to secure the mines for the Kingdom. Reports say the platoon has met great success thus far, securing twice the number of passages than the Avistarian Army was able to.All artwork is by starfarertheta unless otherwise stated.

Note(s) from the Archivists:
Are we sure those mines can still produce ores? - Archivist Theta The Dehur Kjol was called the infinite mine for a reason. Legend has it that they had to stop mining in order to save the economy from high inflation. - Archivist Bob IronrockRemove these ads. Join the Worldbuilders Guild
