Evening Mountains

This mountain range has the best views of a setting sun.
— Phidi Strideheart, Traveler

Overview

The westernmost mountain range of the Continental Island of Dammerung. From the northern slopes, one can see some distance into the Azure Ocean. Likewise, one can see some distance into the Wowala Ocean from the southern slopes. The shape of the Evening Mountain Range creates a kind of horseshoe that encircles the Isychia Valley wherein lies the Reborn City of Haven. This entire region is one of the most stable in a world ravaged by the wild magics of The Great Collapse.

It is surreal to be here during what should be late summer only for everything to feel like mid-autumn.
— Aurtur Neha, Traveler

A Lengthy Autumn

Due to factors not readily understood, like most aftereffects of the collapse, autumn in the Evening Mountains is much longer than elsewhere on the continent. The hills and mountains slopes are home to splashes of reds, yellows, oranges, and even greens for at least half a year. The other three seasons pass more quickly as a result with summer being the shortest of the seasons for this region.

A Mostly Quiet Place

Aside from the occasional quake and tremor that is common all over the Quassus Continent, magic fields seem surprisingly sparse within the interior of this mountain range. This has made the Evening Mountains and the Isychia Valley within the preferred region for those looking for peace and quiet. The mountains and the valley are what most people think of when they talk about the "Quiet West." Even the tribes that occupy this region seem unusually peaceful when it comes to settling quarrels. Some say that the quiet state of affairs is too good to last, while others believe this is one of the few areas that is finally returning to a state of normalcy post collapse.

If the collapse was so destructive, why are so many of us still here?
— Annita Quill, Scholar

Abandoned Monasteries

Most places have their mysteries, and the same is true of the Evening Mountains. Great structures, many appearing to have been monasteries in the past, can be found built up along the steep slopes of the mountains. Many remain inaccessible as their paths are either blocked, destroyed, are not known to the living today. Even if one were to reach these strange structures, their ruined state would make exploration an extremely hazardous proposition.   As to the age of the monasteries, they do not belong to The Ancient Order, the great global empire that existed before the collapse. These ruins could date as far back as the year 0AGC- the earliest these structures could have been according to current understandings of the collapse. It is difficult to know for sure as no one remembers who built them and no written record of their work has been recovered yet. There is a fringe theory that states that these monasteries guard the doorways into underground arks that protected a great many people during the collapse.

Note(s) from the Archivists:

I've been there. It's surreal to see not only how long autumn is, but how vibrant it can get. I'd say that if the collapse left anything good in its wake, this could be one of them. - Archivist Theta

I love the idea of a place where the autumn is really long. It must be a beautiful place to visit. The abandoned monasteries are really interesting too.
