Moneëa's Chocolate Cake
This cake has no right to be this delicious. Not that I'm complaining. There are cakes, and then there are legendary cakes. Well, they're all legendary in their own way one would suppose, but this particular kind of chocolate cake has some history behind it. It may have even been the first chocolate cake conceived, baked, and consumed since the collapse. It's conception seemed to have been the will of the fates as various ingredients from across the continent needed to be brought together so that its form would be realized. Specifically, the trading of chocolate had to occur and that this particular ingredient would find its way into the hands of a sufficiently creative culinary mind. That mind was the legendary Chef Moneea Snowdrift, the one responsible for the advent of a great many confectionery delights including glazed cinnamon rolls, chocolate chunk cookies, and good berry brownies. It was Chef Moneëa who was the first on record to add coco powder to her usual cake recipe and then perfected it. It is then completed with Moneëa's famous cream cheese icing, although a chocolate ganache is also acceptable. As for the cake's appearance, it is made in the form of a traditional Lunarian Roll cake- which should make sense as it was the originator of this particular shape.
Cake of Tradition
Other varieties of chocolate cake are out there, the basic ingredients are easily applied, but this Moneea's is the variety of choice for traditions and festivals. This is largely due to its unusual fluffiness compared to other kinds of cake. A particularly large and decorated Moneea's Chocolate Cake is a staple of the palace dinner during the annual Talvipäivänseisaus. It's icing is specially decorated to mimic the appearance of the moon. The Queen has the honor of taking the first slice of cake with the honor moving to each successive position of the family. Outside the palace, a public chocolate cake is made that is so long two or three tables are needed to hold its full length. The cake doesn't only show up at the Talvi and will often be used during other observed festivals. It is of course appropriately decorated for each event.A Common Roll
The Lunarian Roll has become a typical holiday variety of cake across the continent, even in the Kingdom of Helia- the country the Queendom of Lunaria will inevitably go to war with. In Avistar, when it was unconquered, a Lunarian Roll was made as a red velvet cake. In the Kingdom of Helia, a roll is prepared as a carrot cake. In the Kingdom of Vhara, a Lunarian Roll is prepared using a pound cake recipe. Centrum has no particular style of its own though its residents do prefer the Avistarian variety. Each cake is then used in the preferred cultural holiday. For Helia, that would be the Day of the Rising Lantern ritual.

Ancient Order Treats
As with many things in Awldor, the cakes enjoyed in the pre-collapse world have their origin in recovered ancient cook books. Of course, many meals found in these books are difficult to recreate due to a lack of resources or to having insufficient tools. However, the cake was not impossible especially when continental trade routes became established between tribes allowing for the flow of ingredients found in one part to another.Note(s) from the Archivists:
It was an honor to have written this article. - Archivist Bob You know, I would've thought the Helian version of the Lunarian Roll would be a yellow cake. - Archivist Enna Can we take a moment to appreciate that the Vharans can successfully roll up a sheet of pound cake? - Archivist Edward Rolling up a cake is a little miracle every time it's done, but I see your point. - Archivist EnnaRemove these ads.
