The Factions of Sol

Is it a surprise to anyone that a city so large that there are those who would begin to view as the only world that matters? That it is therefore worth fighting for with every inch? - Gregory Morningsun
With a city so large and still growing it is perhaps little wonder that the city's populous is splintering into different factions despite the iron grip of King Vimak. These factions have taken to claiming and enforcing influence over a district of the city as their territory. Sporadic conflicts between the gangs usually occur around the borders of these districts. With the armies of Helia out at distant front lines, the resources of the Sol Guard have been stretched thin in containing the increasingly chaotic activities of the city's factions.   Only the most prominent factions are listed below, with several others of such little import to the larger political machinations of the city's largest factions.
Yeah that's right, we're fire and we're burning it all down! - Zula Sundown, Clan Ablaze Member

Clan Ablaze

Home District: Caseus   The most violent and unpredictable gang of the city of Sol. The connecting thread for all of its members is vengeance for one grievance or another. They commit all manner of crimes throughout the city seemingly on nothing more than impulse. Their membership consists of the truly deranged of the city. As for how such a group can be organized enough to become a major gang, no one really knows for certain. On the one hand, it does not seem like there is any overarching leadership and the gang could just be many disparate elements taking on the same name. It is also possible that someone is acting as puppeteer to the most damaged people of Sol for some as yet unseen end. In many ways, Clan Ablaze is like to the violent Alkanas faction of Centrum- an organization led by "Gora" who is a member of Centrum's Most Wanted.

Sunbathed

Home District: Artem   Often considered sell outs among the other gangs, the Sunbathed often find themselves accused of telling on other factions to the Sol Guard even when swearing to keeping confidence. Additionally, they are seen as acting at the behest of the Helian government in return for resources and protection. These accusations do not seem to be unfounded. The Sunbathed are unusually well equipped compared to the other factions. In fact, they appear for all the city like an unofficial militia- a third arm of Helia's growing war machine.   Throughout their history, the Sunbathed have focused particular attention on gaining ever greater control of Sol's illicit markets. These days, they are focused on undermining Amity's Light but this could change soon. There is a rumor saying they are preparing to make a move on the Spell Crafters.

The Kingdom can't survive on war! It must embrace peace! - Gregory Morningsun, Amity's Light Member

Amity's Light

Home District: Crystallini   This faction is not afraid to tag various places in the city with their artistry- even when consistently accused of vandalism by the reigning government. The most common tag is that of a heart bathed in light and a broken sword beneath that. They are the most vocal anti-war faction in the city of Sol and therefore often find themselves targeted by Sol Guard raids. Their art are often very colorful and often chosen with vivid blues or greens in contrast to yellow, orange, and gold that prevail a across the city. They are increasingly influential among the young of the city which is an increasing area of concern for Sol's elite and such dissent can mean future instability of a Kingdom with its sights set squarely on imperial goals. For many others, they see the ways of Amity's Light as a welcome change of pace to Helia's now oppressive focus on engaging in warfare.

Spell Crafters

Home District: Arbaro   The most mysterious gang with rumored ties to Lunaria. Every member of the Spell Crafters conceals their true identity through some combination of disguise and magic. The Shadow's use of magic that has made them noteworthy in a city where magics are strictly controlled. In fact, it is the very control Helia exerts on mages of all walks of life that has motivated this faction's actions. They seem to favor the Abaro district with its large parks and trees both small and tall where they run and hide when pursued by Sol Guard. In addition to artwork, the members will sometimes put on quick unofficial performances of magic and prestidigitation in carefully selected guise. These performances have ranged from promoting the free use of magic to decrying the latest Helian campaign of conquest.

Penumbra

Home District: Unknown   Topping Sol's Most Wanted list, Penumbra is considered the most dangerous faction to be found in the city. They are not a faction as such, but a small group of highly dangerous former members of the Golden Gale Cavalry- the cavalry being an elite Helian military unit. They are able to exert some degree of influence over all factions in the city with the exception of the Clan Ablaze. There are rumors that Penumbra has some relationship with the Dusk Hour Cult though such has yet to be proven. Their home district has yet to be found and may not even be within the city.

Shadow Market

The factions listed in this article operate the city's Shadow Markets known for trading all manner of wars some of which are illegal or illicit.   Trade through these markets is important to the factions as it is a primary means of obtaining equipment and even funding. As such, controlling the most markets can give a faction a decisive advantage.

Note(s) from the Archivists:

Doesn't the mere existence of Clan Ablaze imply that there's something wrong with the Helian lifestyle? - Archivist Enna   I think the constant need for war would've been the more obvious indicator. - Archivist Rena
