Session 1: Ambushed
General Summary
After waking up in The Hunter's Purse tavern, three strangers' lives were intertwined. Falco Thunukalathi, a Goliath bearing the religious symbols of the winter goddess Essina; Jraxler Rahman, dressed in leathers and with a penchant for sketching people; and Zeth'Rim, a Gith that had travelled both from the underdark and across oceans to be in this town at this time.
A commotion sent them and a few other patrons curiously into the main square outside, a young man had collapsed at the doorstep of Halatir's Haven - Ullford. Rousing him, the three found out the man's name is Podrin Walker and they were ushered indoors by the flamboyant owner, the Half-Elf Halatir Oberon.
Podrin was attacked on the road, carrying wares for the shop from the western side of Aldenia. Normally, once across Mohzall's Chasm, the journey is completely safe. The road is only one day's ride and trouble isn't found there. However, all Podrin could remember was a flash of purple-ish light and then darkness. Waking up in the rain-sodden mud, he had run all the way home since the cart had been severely damaged in the attack.
Taking the three strangers with him, Podrin led them to the site of the attack. The group was ambushed by a pair of wolves at the cart. Jraxler, knowledgeable in the ways of beasts noted that wolves attacking citizens on the roadside is abnormal for these parts. Podrin was wounded reasonably badly in the attack but Falco's armour and size were enough to distract the angered beasts, he managed to dispatch of the threat and patch up the young wizard. Jraxler managed to uncover some tracks, which led the party to a cave guarded by Kobolds.
The pair of Kobolds were swiftly eliminated after they attempted to stop the group entering the cave. The group navigated the passages within - noting that the passage was oddly spacious for a race that is only a few feet tall if that. The kobold traps were easily spotted by the observant human ranger and successfully avoided, although the last one, a pressure trap was foiled by throwing a dagger at it and the noise seemingly alerted the cave dwellers that laid ahead. For once the group entered the large chamber at the end of the corridor, they were immediately ambushed by more Kobolds.
A fight ensued. Podrin struggled to do any damage to these creatures, until gifted a dagger by Falco. Falco himself eliminated the apparent leader, a winged Kobold, with one blast of holy energy. The leader was wielding a wand that fired projectiles of purple light, confirming that they were the likely attackers. Jraxler, again noted that this is strange behaviour. Kobolds are notoriously defensive of their property, but typically do not aggressively assault passersby like bandits. The group rather handily managed to dispatch the remaining Kobolds and began to survey the scene.
