The Providence of Man
The Providence of Man is a stretch of territory on the Western Continent. It is mostly inhabited by humans, but is not exclusive. Value is placed in Peace, Honor, and Defense, focused more on maintaining its current territory as opposed to striking out and conquering others.
Structure
At the head of The Providence of Man is the king (Currently King Pascus Allington III) who oversees and issues the final word known as True Law.
Underneath the King are the Dukes who act as miniature kings over their own territory. Although they can issue their own taxation and laws, it is the King's power and authority that can trump their ruling.
Public Agenda
The Providence of Man's public agenda is to protect and serve their own people. Foreign aid is an extreme rarity, and conquering occupied lands are just as infrequent. Mostly it exists by its people, for its people.
History
The birth of humans was a time struck with extreme difficulty. The only races with any cohesion were the elves and dwarves, as most of the others were nomadic and existed on a 'The strong eat the weak' mindset. This meant that early Human settlements were constantly under threat by roaming packs of orcs, goblins, beasts, and other creatures with no concern for the fledgling race. Despite this, humans had an intrinsic sense of unity, and soon alliances were formed and territory was firmly defended. Some humans formed roaming caravans and headed north, founding civilization in the cold and letting the environment shape them into the Haathun, but a majority kept themselves in plains and united under a single banner known as The Providence of Man. Despite their origins and namesake, the country was welcoming and defensive of all, even non-humans, so long as they could maintain that sense of civility and unity.
Education
Most settlements suffer a low education. Places like Bradendale and Two Bridges have citizens who can barely read and specialize in farming or lumber work. However, larger settlements like Lerndon and Portsmark have a majority who are able to read and write, and Duvonia, the capital even has individuals with higher learning in basic to advanced engineering.
Prinum, another settlement in the Providence, places a large focus on education, though is denied most funding to further this education. The very attempt to educate, however, has resulted in a higher learned population for its size.
By our shield, protection for the people.
