Incredibly young by the standards of the Fae, Briar began his research career in his 20s.
An orphan who's flower was unattended when it unfurled, Briar never knew his parents. After cultivating a passion for beauty, knowledge, and magic, he left to the material plane to discover new wonders and practice Bladesong, since he had no standing or letters of recommendation to join a Bladesinging School in Arcadia.
Finding his way to the Cabrium Athenium, Briar found himself apprenticed to the Head Librarian Dierdre Cabrium, who appreciated Briar's curious and inquisitive mind.
Within the year, Briar's career progressed quickly under Dierdre's guidance. While the standard university research librarian would typically focus on and aide patrons with research paper and literature review, Briar was not content for his research to remain only within the walls of his beloved library. He wanted to do field research as well.
He proposed and established the new position of "Cheif Research Librarian," becoming the first to assume that role. As such he would aide library goers with matters of research and study, but also go out into Vitore to observe and study the many wonders it had to offer.
By the end of his first year at the Athenium, Briar undertook to acquire his master's degree in Applied Arcane Research under the academic supervision of the also Professor Dierdre Cabrium. This was through an independent study program at the Cabrium which was backed by academic reputation of the then Zerzurran Arcanists Lyceum, now the University of Zerzurra
In pursuit of this degree, Briar and Dierdre set out on their first research expedition together to the newly established Kingdom of Ceriosen. For they heard that many new discoveries were being made there, most importantly: ancient libraries filled with books
