Jungles of Old Landis

Current Month: Julwar 2nd: 209, The Fifth Age
The Jungles of Old Landis is a wild tropical land located on what used to be the Kingdom of Landis. Being one of the only places on Tremalking to follow natural weather patterns and equilateral temperatures, it was abandoned by the surviving Landisians and Drow.   It is a land of unspoiled jungle and swamp, isolated from the realms of Man, Elf and Dwarf for over two centuries. Many brave or foolish explorers and treasure hunters — though the two are often indistinguishable — have attempted to penetrate the thick jungles that make up the center of the continent, but almost all have never been seen or heard of again. Legends tell that the Jungles of old Landis and Zulucan was grown by the Twin Titan post Second Fall, and this is borne out by the many identical species of flora and fauna indigenous to both.   Before the Second Fall Landis was located in the more temperate northern Hemisphere. However, when the apocalypse came, the planet shifted and Landis found itself on the planets new equator. Unable to support the original species and flora it once sheltered, it instead became a vast and thick jungle.   The merchants of Vercinia were the first to probe along the interior with their caravans in search of spice, gold and all kinds of exotic tropical merchandise. When the southern jungles and mountains proved to difficult to penetrate, they tried sea routes; taking their ships and probing along the coasts on the gap. The great Vercinian traveller Inigo Cotaz was the first to penetrate the jungle and encounter the hidden realms of the Chromatic Dragons and their wyrmling slaves. Since then, few have followed in his wake, preferring to halt at the edge of the Jungle rather than risk battle with the dragons.   Lief the Lost was the first Vaskerry to explore Old Landis. He had been sailing towards Marjolais, when somehow he managed to miss entirely and sail too far south. Thus he rightly earned his nickname the 'Lost', which he bequeathed to his son. Eventually he made landfall on the coast of the Old Landis, which he believed was in fact Marjolais. Lost Lief and his men sailed up and down the coast raiding Wyrmling tribal settlements, then returned to Vaskerry with the booty. By this time Lost Lief realized that he had penetrated Old Landis. Years later his son, Lostliefson, set out to raid the coasts of the Old Landis.
