Gedrite

A unique crystalline material found in abundance in the moutainous regions of Aikreon. Gedrite is often referred to as "Sun Crystal" or "Sonder-stone", as it is believed to be of the sun goddess Sonderaelle.

Properties

Material Characteristics

Gedrite is generally clear in its raw form, though is sometimes found with a hazy red, orange or very rarely in a violet hue.   It appears in roughly spherical formations ranging in size from as small as a few inches to as large as eight feet in diameter. The spheres are characterized by the spires of gedrite sticking out from the center, much like the head of a spiked mace.

Physical & Chemical Properties

Gedrite is highly refractive when clean and polished, and has a prismatic effect when light passes through it; hence the strong connection to the sun goddess.

Geology & Geography

Gedrite is found in abundance on the continent of Aikreon. Small formations can be found relatively near the surface in open, desert regions. Larger formations are found in the rocky, mountainous areas near the center of the continent.

History & Usage

History

Gedrite crystals hold some significance to the people of Aikreaon. Throughout its history, various tribes of Aikreon would decorate their weapons with the crystals or fashion spear and arow heads from them much as they would flint and other stones. Many tribes believed that if prismatic light shone from their gedrite-tipped weapon, it was a sign that the sun goddess herself had blessed their cause.
