Session 9
General Summary
A-bone-doned Hope
The party decided that the first issue on their list that they wanted to tackle was retrieving the Bones of St. Andral from Milovaj, whom Father Lucian suspects had taken them. Making their way through town, they noticed the townsfolk seemed to be readying themselves for the upcoming festival. Arriving at a modest building, the party walked in to find a waiting area with a journal opened. It looked like a guest log, which is strange to have at an orphanage, but nonetheless the party decided to look into some of the guests that had showed up. Particularly, noting that the Baron had visited a few times in the last couple of weeks. After ringing the bell, an old, stern looking woman with pepper hair and white streaks walked in to welcome them, questioned them, and promptly brought them to Milovaj. Moving through the main social area of the orphanage, Ahrieya, Nova, and Gio noticed that some of the children had black and red bruises all over their arms and back. When brought into Milovaj's room, his sickly state was explained by the woman who brought them there, Ms. Claudia Belasco, and also by another man sitting at Milovaj's bedside, Vasili von Holtz. This came almost suddenly about three days ago. Unable to get any information from Milovaj in his current state, the party decided to investigate the orphanage to see why the children look wounded. As Ariadne and Vasili distracted Ms. Belasco, Gio, Nova, and Ireena questioned the children while Ahrieya snuck into Ms. Belasco's office. Nova got to play house, learning that Ms. Belasco 'eats naughty children, Gio learned that a boy named Felix seems okay and not have any bruises,' while Ariadne, via mind reading, found that the headmistress seemed to worry about the state of the children. Ahrieya snuck into the office to find documents detailing all comings and goings in the orphanage, as well as a strangle silver locket with something inscribed inside...Let darkness hide from the gaze of the light.Leaving the locket behind, looking through the documents Ahrieya found that children have been going missing, either taken, running away, or in the most recent case, dying. She also notes that one of the orphans, Felix, arrived around the same time Milovaj went unconscious, and the other children started developing bruises. Moving further into the bedroom, Ahrieya found a book detailing corporal punishment, as well as general demon and devil information (which was entirely false). Ms. Belasco seemed to be researching what is happening to the children, and suspecting something is up with Felix that may be the reason why.
Who's Your Dark Master?
Ariadne took a moment to fill in most of the party about what she had found and current plans. Gio told Idris that Felix is probably somewhere upstairs, and that maybe he should try to convince him that he is his 'Dark Lord'. Thinking about it, Idris took Viggo and headed upstairs. Finding a group of girls reading and tending to infants, Idris asked where Felix was, and upon being told that the weird boy was up in the attic, left to go find him. In the dust filled top floor, Idris saw a child carving away at a piece of wood, making a doll. When questioned, he stated that he only does it when he's bored. Question after question, the child grew more and more aggressive with his stance, and began to approach Idris, brandishing a knife. Idris magically shouted at the child, echoing through the home that Felix was underestimating him and meddling in powers he does not understand. A moment later, a massive shadow projected itself out of Felix's back and proclaimed that Idris too, has little understanding in the power he is dealing with. As a fight ensued, the party ran upstairs while Ireena stayed behind to corral the children. Gio, frozen for a moment, seemed to recognize the monster before snapping to it. Nova saw the smokey form of the creature originate from the body of the child, and thus thought that killing the boy would be a quick solution. Idris managed to distract her momentarily from beheading the child. Thinking that getting the child away from the beast would be a good idea, Gio swaddled the child and promptly leapt through the attic window into the backyard, getting worried and confused looks from Ireena and the children on the ground floor. After sustaining damage, the shadowy creature swiftly moved back into Felix's body and threatened to slit his own neck if the party didn't leave now. Calling its bluff and trying to knock out the child, Nova leapt from the attic window as well, landing on the child but, in doing so, also caused the knife to cut into the boy's neck. Frustrated, Idris healed the child and ran downstairs as Gio chased the panicked- and angry-looking demon through the halls of the orphanage before slamming it against a wall, reducing it to nothing. With everyone collected, Claudia explained that she was looking into the issues with the children, but was reluctant to share any information. The party went to comfort Felix as Ahrieya checked on Milovaj. Seeing that he was awake, Ahrieya asked who he sold the bones to so that he had money to find some of the lost children. Realizing she knew, Milovaj shared that he sold them to the coffin maker, Henrik van der Voort. Promising to keep his secret safe, Ahrieya told him he should rest, and brought Vasili into the room. Gio and Ariadne decided to make a great potato feast and cookies, while Ahrieya and Idris talked outside. Once Idris left, Nova went to see if Felix was alright. As Idris was smoking, Ireena came out to ask if Ahrieya and Idris think of her as their friend. While Idris said yes, Ahrieya choose to keep her out of the look in the chances she became a liability. Smiling at the response, she swiftly went to put out Idris' cigarette, telling him that its gonna kill him someday despite how many times he says he's worried something else will get him first.Break-in at the Coffin Shop
As the party left the orphanage to find the bones, a greasy looking man named Ernst greeted them, and handed them an invite to Lady Wachter's book club. They are to attend at their earliest convenience. The man quickly disappeared. Following the man, Gio and Nova tracked him to an old, plant covered home at the northern part of town before going to catch up with the rest of the party making their way to the coffin shop. While at the coffin shop, Ahrieya staked out the place as Idris and Ariadne tried to persuade themselves into the shop. Henrik seemed adamant on not allowed them in, but when peeking out for a moment, got caught by Ariadne's charm spell and had him open up the shop for them. Inside and after a brief discussion, Henrik told them that the bones were upstairs, but seemed to strain when saying where. As Idris walked upstairs to look for them, everyone in the shop felt a chill down their spine. Looking in the rooms, Idris found a lot of crates labeled 'Junk' as well as a closet with a few extra coins in it. Ahrieya came upstairs to find the crates just as Gio and Nova showed up at the shop. With everyone except Ariadne upstairs, Ahrieya took a crowbar to the crates to find that a gaunt, pale, and fanged humanoid was hunched inside. As it crawled out, figures began emerging from the other five crates in the room. At the same time, Ariadne heard the sound of heels entering the shop, and saw a dark skinned woman with dreaded hair up in a bun, wearing a gorgeous gold and silver dress and fine jewelry. It seems something is happening...
