Elizabeth Durst
Elizabeth Durst was a member of the Durst Family. They lived in a time before Strahd and before Barovia. Together with Gustav Durst she had two children; Rosavalda and Thornboldt Durst.
After Strahd’s arrival, the Durst household felt the weight of their new lord’s darkness as it spread over the land. Elizabeth became manically obsessed with her own aging. Aware of Strahd's age-defying magics Elizabeth Durst turned to the arcane, together with the high class of the nearby village, determined to find the answer to eternal youth. She pushed Gustav who hesitantly joined. During their practices, on the request of Gustav, the Durst locked away their children, Rose and Thorn, to preserve their innocence of the cult's activities.
As Elizabeth's mental stability withered, she discovered that her husband had lain with the nursemaid, Margaret Antonova. As Margaret’s belly swelled with life, Elizabeth lost herself in jealousy and hatred, convinced her growing age was the reason for her husband’s adultery. Overcome with her own madness, she came up with a terrible plan.
A few months after Margaret gave birth to her child - a healthy, baby boy named Walter - Mrs. Durst snuck into the nursemaid’s suite and murdered her. After hiding the body, Mrs. Durst took Walter to the basement and sacrificed the infant in an unholy rite, accompanied only by her most trusted cultists.
The sheer atrocity of this sacrifice attracted the notice of a Dark Power. Amused by the depravity and desperation of the act, the evil god granted Mrs. Durst and her cultists the immortality they so craved - by turning them into ghouls and ghasts.
Elizabeth remained in the Undercroft of the Durst Manor. Seeing first hand how her husband committed suicide when discovering what had happened in the ritual room. Delighted with this course of events she waited in her new degraded form and preyed on whoever found their way to Durst manor.
Until on the 4th of Eleasis 1494 DR / 4th of Avgust 735 BC, where a group of adventurers consisting of Ilja Draugr, Volition, Chimera and Tarsynova Selennama entered the Durst Manor. After working through the house, reaching the Undercroft the party encountered her. After a brief conversation the party engaged her and after a short fight the killing blow to Elizabeth was delivered by Volition using her large staff, crushing her head in the process.
