Session 38: Scallywags of the Grey Coasts: Fall of an Empire, Rise of Kurtulmak's Luck
General Summary
The chase begins... roars from the Orc Matriarch bellow in the wind, and a storm begins to loom above, heavy rain falling like foreshadowed tears of this day, the end of the 20th of Fall Feather. The Clouds take the shape, the storm, of a bearded giant.
The majority run, the Scallywags, Auna, her sister Mercou, the 76th Chosen of the Mother, three dwarves, a silver friend of Dovah, Lady Ugala and her daughter Shell. The Matriarch charges forth, her son Hounsou with bow in hand, Goujou with brilliant sword, and her Death Reaper, magical scythes whirling. Their city roars in shock and amazement as the Matriarch's central tower falls, and they must answer that call, answer the death of so many beforehand, so many buried under the implosion of her tower.
Skiff turns and gives his map to the treasures of Kurtulmak to the kobold prisoner, and then he runs into some trees and hides, and Ilknar takes with Brimstone and Roland the dwarves, exhausted by their imprisonment and running, in arms. Rognur and Nethpione continue to run.
Soon Ilknar notices Skiff is gone, and he drops the dwarf to run on its own, following Rognur, Roland, and the tiefling, with the other prisoners in tow. Skiff gets his gun ready, and Ilknar yells for him, and they agree to take in a split, attacking and waylaying the charging orc leader, Vopaz the Matriarch the leader of the Scions. Her children break free, two from the tower still falling, and then the other three. Those follow, roar, and one turns into mist attacking Ilknar.
Auna and her sister charge backward to join, and the young Auna is brought into the explosion set in three-fold. First, the Final Annihilation explodes, taking the courier and Hounsou with it, and then, a few moments later after some exchange of smites from the Matriarch on her daughter, and her son the Reaper attacking Ilknar, Skiff gets close enough within range to her, and young Auna too, and he explodes his Queen; Bess takes the lives of the Matriarch and Skiff, obliterating the kobold and leaving the Matriarch with nothing but her sword flying away, landing in the grassy fields for future warriors to find. Additionally, a lightning bolt strikes from above nearly felling Phourouh, daughter of the Matriach as she flies to aid, but Ilknar strikes her twice as a giant, and she falls from his throw to the crater left by Skiff's Queen Bess.
The stun is there, the group reels, but the Children of the Matriarch still fight, but Nethpione soon erupts another storm sphere, and it overtakes the remaining Scion of Her. During this Auna briefly roars and wishes to claim the throne for her own, but her sister Mercou changes her mind, and they leave with the crew.
Ilknar stops before the grave, the crater, of Skiff's Queen Bess, burying his own gun, and saying final prayers over his draconic soul. Then, the roars, the shock from the capital city erupt, and more running must begin.
They meet up within 10 minutes with Rognur, dragonborn of Dovah, kobold, dwarves, and Roland, inform of the kobold's passing, and discuss their political ramifications briefly, as the rain lessens, and they they must move. They must return to the Call.
A day into their Travel, Aikhon contacts his brother Brimstone, they discuss a pickup, but only 8 hours later, these plans are interrupted. The Scions have found the Call.
