Brimstone

Brimstone wasn't always Brimstone. He was born in a backwater fishing village as one of three triplets. He was given the name Valthrac, with his sister Valentha and brother Vareth. His father left shortly after their first birthday, and any memory of him has faded away. His mother took care of them as best as she could, but the three were always itching for adventure. Many rumors and legends surrounded his father: about his unnatural longevity and vitality, his supernatural charm and wit, and (more importantly) his wealth. Some say he made a deal with a devil, others say he was a dragon in disguise, and some say he was a Fey Lord playing pirate. Whatever the case, Valthrac always admired his father, even if it was just an exaggeration.   Valthrac spent his early childhood helping out the sailors at port, along with his siblings. They all grew up with stories of his father's treasure hoard, and one day they decided to stow away on a ship to go find it. This turned out to be a terrible mistake, as the ship was captained by a horrible and cruel Elf named Jerezad. He found the three children and immediately put them to work aboard the ship.   After years under the oppressive rule of Jerezad, the triplets devised a plan of mutiny. The plan went well, and they were able to kill Jerezad and take control of the ship. The triplets lived out their teen lives as pirates, slowly rising in notoriety, wealth, and power.   After 5 years as pirates, a divide began to take place between them. Valentha started to steal less and take up contracts as an escort for merchants. Vareth started to become violent and power-hungry, and he even began to steal from the coastal villages. Valthrac sat in the middle of the two, stealing from haughty merchant ships and delivering unsavory cargo.   The divide worsened every day, until the tension snapped. When Vareth was going to murder the whole crew of a navy ship from the Faces of the King, Valentha stepped in defending the sailors. Valthrac, unable to side against either sibling, ended up making himself an enemy of both.   The ensuing battle lasted 2 days. It left all three siblings injured and badly damaged their ships, not to mention the many deaths of the sailors on either side. It would come to be known as the Two Dawns Battle by the nearby islands.   In the battle, Valthrac faked his death and swam for a nearby shore. After his siblings limped away on their vessels, Valthrac decided he would lay low for a while. He got himself a new name, and established himself as a smuggler and "Procurer of Exotic Goods".   Valentha earned a pardon from the Faces of the King, and entered the navy as a privateer. There, she continued her services as an armed escort and became a well-known pirate hunter. She also became a bounty hunter, and chased fugitives even onto land.   Vareth remained a pirate, fighting and clawing his way back to dominance. He started his own gang called the Brackish Fleet. They looted merchant ships, raided the coasts, and stole warships from anyone they could take on.   Valthrac, now known as Brimstone, sailed back home after his mother grew ill. She passed away, and left him what little their family had. Among the possessions was a cloth map, woven with dyed threads so as to not ruin in water. Immediately thinking back to the stories of his father, his ambitions of finding the treasure hoard were reignited.   Brimstone spent his days joining small merchant vessels, and paying off the crew to bring aboard his product. One day, he encountered a hiccup, along with another fellow Dragonborn. Through the dastardly escape, Brimstone and his new companion Aikhon decided it was best to join forces.

Yet another instance of chaos today. A goblin ship attacked us, which we masterfully repelled. However, it was my first raiding in quite a while. Things quickly got out of hand which ended with many dead goblins and trolls.   I have learned. I must give more concise orders before and during our ventures. I have also accepted the blame of our troubles our ship has faced, for it is the captain's duty to ensure the wellbeing and comfort of the crew.   Aikhon needs to cultivate favor with the crew. I will not protect him from the consequences of his actions, at least from them. It will build character.

Got myself roughed up a bit tonight. Held my own fighting Shorty, Shoulders, and Big Blue.   Ah, but I lost. The fight was good for morale, and a good event to ease tensions. Managed to knock out Pojin with a belaying pin, so there's that. I gotta control myself a little more, let out a bit of the embers out.   My dear brother managed to get third, perhaps I can learn a bit from him. Need to get better footwork as well, I was surrounded with no way to get to a better position. Perhaps Shorty can give me a few pointers.   It also seems that I managed to gainn the respect (even a little bit) from Big Blue.   Let' just h pe this storm of ours doesn't prove too m ucha challnege. Ah, rumss kikin in. just gonna lie down______

My sister used to keep something like this. Might as well start with these records now, with a truly eventful night. The Human, Torth, informed me of a dire situation with our cargo.   Rats. Foul rats.   We managed to eradicate them, but not before two of the newer members were bitten and infected. The minotaur, Rald, and the little aquatic long-mouse, Peanut, were the victims. They were left in the care of our unsettling medic.   The creatures must have gotten on when we stopped to resupply at Tankherst. Next time, I will assign a lookout for the vermin.   The crew's moral has definitely taken a hit. Not the best start to a new captain's role. Hopefully, my deeds in the coming days will speak of my worthiness.   On another dour note, our... Elemental Engine, was it? It is starting to break. Noodles informed me this morning of the problem. Hopefully, *someone* in Feon can help us with it. Otherwise, the Soul of the Horizon will die.
