Session 58: Nautiloids In Flight and Scions' Leftover Might: Scallywags
General Summary
The Call is in the Southwest corners of the Bloom, and they are reinforced by three dwarven axe warships. The dwarves scare off two of the nautiloids, overwhelming them with canon and mangonel fire, but they see to the North, more warships coming: another fleet. Yet, still one nautiloid plane shifts away, at least for a day, and another dimension doors, and it flies above the bloom to evade the dwarven canon fire.
In the center of the Bloom, Aikhon hangs by a rope ladder with Saerah disguised as a Zile mariner. The Zile leader, Holdar, comes to investigate, as they all wish to know how to enter the golden stem of the bloom: presumable the central treasure for why the Bloom is even here.
Above them, the dragon Shepherd of the Bloom, Mym, soars back from helping Ilknar, Roland, and G from boarding the fleeing nautiloid, one that Mila and Valia, moments before, by way of teleport and slinging dimension door spells, one that they have already boarded, claimed, thundered, and maimed. Soon, these two terrifying ladies of blood and vengeance are joined by the other three, and they take one whole floor of the Nautiloid, slaying aberrations both large and small.
Aikhon, with Saerah and trolls, the humanoid Zile, watch on in horror as Scion ships arrive in the center of the bloom, and they open fire on the zile ship so close the Golden Stem of the Bloom. Holdar, the captain of the zile, orders them to return fire, but their mangonels and ballistae are no match for the scion canons, and they are forced to retreat behind the fogs of the central bloom. About this time, Mym returns to the center, and his roar threatens the Scion from continuing the tirade against the center. He dives from up high toward their central craft, and at this time, Aikhon and Saerah discuss what next steps to take.
However, aboard the Nautiloid, one that is far above and being terrorized by Valia, Mila, G, Roland and Ilknar, is now being greeted by chainsaws carving into cargo bay of the vessel, this living vessel, and within it Roland and Mila follow down stairs, only to be greeted by other mindflayers and aberrations around them, and following from the stairs above. Mila fends off the brunt of them near the stairs, while Valia and Ilknar climb down the cage, that which became its own stair after Valia cut around it. Meanwhile, Roland, despite the darkness, sees the large brain structure that is the central processing unit of the Nautiloid itself. He attacks it, and the Nautiloid faulters in flight. This perhaps only lends to the boarding of the Scallywags, and more aberrations come to engage them in the same vein of protection and violence.
Yet, despite all this, and unbeknownst to any of those on this Nautiloid, Aikhon and Saerah dimension door to the deck of the lead incoming Scion ship, and they are able to impress with magics, persuasion, the dangerous presence of a very angry dragon about to bear on their small fleet with star fire, that maybe an alliance is needed, and that the trolls are with the dragon, and ourselves, and our power is what is to be feared. They call off the fight, despite the losses of the Trolls, and even some of the Scion, and of course the confusion of the shepherd Nym, but before Aikhon can react in kind, Mym informs him that the Call, his brother as captain and his crew, are soon to be engaged with a fleet of great strength, one coming in from the north. Aikhon only needs to hear that Mym has been lucky enough to have both his duty and family intertwine, thus allowing him to be with Saerah and the Bloom, he only needs to hear this conviction once, Aikhon, before he dives back into the water, and he heads west. This is where he soons finds one the nautiloids laying in wait for those that may push beyind the juggernaut wreckage from days before.
He chances it, and he is quiet, but his thoughts still reel from the pressure and trauma, and this is what the Nautiloid's crew senses, aberrations and mindflayers themselves, and they cannot help but quell their own fright by tasting his. Yet, the dragonborn is too agile and quick, and while the nautiloid destroys the ship behind him and and dodges, dives, and weaves amongst the flotsam left by the previous plunder and what now follows Aikhon from behind, Aikhon finds himself greeted by the three dwarven vessels, locked and loaded. They open fire upon the following Nautiloid, destablizing it, and it crashes below into what is left of the orcish juggernaut ship.
