Session 61: 1200 ft., Scallywags
General Summary
Roland is below deck, on the lowest point of the nautiloid, and he stands above the slippery brainlike mass that controls the nautiloids movements. Desperately distant voices beg for him to stop what he has already started; desperately a lone humanoid body, longbow in hand runs to the same floor, knocks and arrow seeping with distinct poisons to drop the suited warrior. Yet, none so desperate to stop the claw like appendage of Roland Odds as he jabs his dagger deeply twice into the flesh of the brain of this nautiloid. When he is done, the mass falls limply, the brain nothing more than watery puss, and the whole vessel shifts backward, losing altitude and falling over 500 feet in mere moments.
All else aboard the vessel attempt to brace themselves, and some are marginally successful, most still engaged on the bridge deck above, with Valia living on nothing but rage and Ilknar fallen beneath their feet. But as the vessel shifts, Ilknar and Valia fall back, still stunned from the psychic attack of the captain of this strange ship, and Mila too, but into a viewing deck, and the hole that Valia had already started to escape. Additionally, Teyos was able to wedge herself back behind a stairwell, and soon after the shift, she is the first to jump and leap to wear Mila slid, and the sea elf summons a flock of Giant Owls just outside the hole; three are immediately destroyed as the nautiloid slams them, but the remaining five work with the sea elf to break open the hole more, but to also dive themselves into the ship, one to help Teyos save the unconscious giantkin Ilknar, but also two, to find the daring human Roland who ran down to give them this sudden moment, perhaps more of a trap than an advantage. Roland is able to situate himself for this escape, but the assassinlike follower gains on his trail, jumps toward his percarious position above the bowl of the puss of brain-matter, and shocks his owl being with a psychic wave that knocks him, stuns him while conscious, his intelligence ridden from his being.
Mila fights on, and drags Ilknar toward the sea elf's position, as brains and mindflayers move away and escape in mist to another plane and also attack with psychic blades and clamping teeth behind muzzles of hungry, groping tentacles. The angle of the vessel is still to their favor, and G and the others are able to reposition away from the back end, where the vessel will smash first into the waves below. They take down many of them, thanks to the wrathful ferver of Valia and the magics and muscle of Mila and G, and, indeed, Mila is able to launch two out the same hole after Teyos, who uses the two remaining owls to fly herself and the unconscious Ilknar, two mindflayers fall one in the gnomes mitts, tentacles and clamps, and another trapped in a resilient sphere. Mila kills the former before she feather falls to the water's surface, and the other, the sphere disappears at the last second before the surface of the water, and it becomes a mistlike past on the surface from the momentum.
Valia is able to run out at the last second, and as the nautiloid is below the surface, she finds Roland, and somehow also G, whom everyone thought the crash took. They lost the sailors and slaves, the food of the mindflayers, those poor souls in the lower decks, but they, the Scallywags of the Horizon's Call, they survived.
They regroup about the waves from the crash, and they see ships forming into a battle north and west of their position, and they eventually see the Call sail directly south, Aikhon diving along and in front like a dragon of the deeps, and far to the North, cannon fire skims overhead, the Faces fire past the Call; their large, five warships strong, black sails, bearing in with heavy fire to the stout dwarf war vessels, The Trio of Axes.
Valia has swum over, and she gets aboard one of these vessels, carring the unconscious G with her. Aikhon is already snuck aboard this vessel, and the others not on the Call's pursuit into the middle of the Faces Fleet--Mila, Ilknar, Roland, Teyos--they watch on, as weapons are drawn, and Valentha Dovah, the sister of Aikhon and Brimstone, garners a quest for civil war, a time to strike knowing family and allies are close. "Kill all the humans!" She roars.
