Trouble with the Ladies; Session 6: The City of Salt: Animaesus and Tarrasques: The 4 Ways
General Summary
The 4 Ways of Disaster return to their apartment within the center of the city. Here, they split again, on this 3rd day of Light, around 2:30 pm; the day is sharp and hot, leading well into the later month of summer. Firstly, Eros leaves to take Roxana to apologize and check in with Rexaney whereas Birdman plays solitaire at the kitchen table and Cotton returns to the Fifth House for debrief and payment, on what was almost a botched job. And lastly, Stryke heads to gather resources to expand his proficiency in woodcarving, and he wants to craft Birdman man more wooded tokens for Birdman.
With poignant eloquence, Eros and Cotton--after a brief discussion of safety and loyalty--lead Roxana to Rexaney, and they easily convince the haflling and the young dancer of the need for togetherness, and a little lust; thus, Rexaney is paid the gold Roxana has on her, with some being taken by Red, a 12th House Blood Bender, a client who helped Roxana gain all this gold (120g, now about 65 after her spending and stealing back from the young dancer. With her future in the 13th House arranged for as a positive gain and Eros as her teacher in the College of Eloquence, Eros returns home; Roxana should have little to fear from the 12th House, Red, or the Blood Benders. Before Eros leaves, however, Rexaney gives her a letter for birdman to clear Roxana's name.
Back at the apartment, Birdman has Rhogarr interrupt his solitaire looking for snacks, but the young Black Squamata sees that the Kenku is lost and alone, and he warns the Birdman of the consequences of that. Upon leaving, and just next to where Stryke carves his wood tokens, Donovan ambushes his elder Rhogarr, impatient for treats and eager to prove his combat prowess. Soon the other orphans hear, and the ambush turns into a familial brawl; this causes a cacophony loud enough for the Birdman to intervene--hoping to warn of their landlord's familiar before their age and candor gets them in trouble. Indeed, as he descends the stairs, he sees on off indentation in the grasses new the entrances to Stryke's tunnels as well as the beginning flaps of a creature flying above. Also, Stryke hears the wings, so a brief combat engages to locate Terry's familiar Shekjes before he lets it known to his master that urchins live for free within the lands he oversees. Fortunately, Birdman and Stryke are able to persuade and intimidate the strange hamster into not explaining more about this situation, and in payment the little Shekjes will get many Eros cooked steaks.
Yet, before Eros returns home, she goes back to the Stagecourts to verify the state of Hardy, Lady Altopar's dwarven friend. She is met by the same Lupin, who leads her to a Drow Elite; their conversation leaves Eros with the understanding that Hardy will be soon slain, after the 12th House gets what they need.
Eros then returns to find the rest of the group getting ready for bed, and they discuss what comes next and how they will deal with what comes next. They bond, and Birdman gives Donovan his first dagger.
The next morning they are greeted by Telearia, hooded and disguised. She is rushed in by Eros, who is most nakedly and she is concerned for Telearia's safety within the city walls. Telearia has a scroll case slung over her left shoulder. As she is brought in, she unfurls four sheets of drawings for sketches she promised of her clothing for the young Eros. Eros is excited, and her joy warms Telearia's heart and makes her all the more concerned about her next two reveals; she apologizes sincerely. The she-elf reveals next a may of the Salted City, with many circles and dots drawn about, sporadically it seems, with one definitively circled near the Tailstones and the 12th House. She believes this to be the location where the 12th House will seize and siphon the precious sanguine resources that will be provided on the 16th of Light, when the Festival of Blood begins. This festival is a beacon of prosperity to the people, providing many poor with precious sustenance. The 12th House seems to be making a broader move to control more of the resources from the Beast of the City. Telearia then reveals the third document: a letter from Lady Altopar apologizing for her return to the city, for her need to stop the 12th House who have committed such heinous acts right under her nose.
The group will return next session after a week of downtime, working as a woodcarver for Stryke, Entertaining for Eros, and general carousing for the lot of them as they search for Lady Altopar before her husband, who presumes she is dead, finds her first.
