Gnome

Gnomes are a rare and unique race within the continent of Valtara. Known for their diminutive size and mischievous nature, they bring a sense of lightheartedness and whimsy to the world. Their main home is the small town of Hatchberry, where they gather to live and thrive in their own vibrant community. Gnomes in Valtara tend to have a neutral good alignment, emphasizing a sense of fairness, compassion, and a desire to do what is right. While they may have reservations and initial skepticism towards other races, Gnomes are open to allowing individuals of other races to prove themselves as friends. They value genuine character and integrity, often forming strong bonds based on trust and shared experiences.   Reproduction among Gnomes is limited to their own kind, as they can only mate with other Gnomes. This contributes to the preservation of their unique heritage and culture, ensuring the continuation of Gnome bloodlines.   Gnomes share a special affinity for Dwarves, forming close friendships and alliances due to their shared love for craftsmanship and a mutual appreciation for the art of engineering. While Gnomes find humans quaint and fascinating, they often perceive them as too erratic and unpredictable for their liking. However, strong friendships have been known to develop between Gnomes and humans, forged through shared adventures and a mutual understanding of each other's strengths.   Illusions and pranks hold a special place in Gnomish culture, as they take delight in trickery and clever deceptions. Their love for illusions reflects their innate magical aptitude and their ability to bring joy and laughter to their surroundings.

Alignment

Gnomes in Valtara tend to have a neutral good alignment, valuing fairness, kindness, and the pursuit of what they believe is morally right. However, individual Gnomes may deviate from this general trend, exhibiting different alignments based on their personal beliefs, experiences, and cultural influences.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Gnomes have a relatively long lifespan, with an average life expectancy that approaches nearly 400 years. This extended lifespan allows them to explore a wide range of experiences and master various skills throughout their lives.   Gnomes are a diminutive race, with males averaging around 3 feet 5 inches in height and weighing approximately 45 pounds. Females, on the other hand, tend to be slightly shorter, standing at around 3 feet 3 inches and weighing about 40 pounds. Despite their small stature, Gnomes possess a keen intellect and agility that compensates for their physical size.

Growth Rate & Stages

Gnomes reach adulthood at the age of 40, a relatively mature stage compared to other humanoid races. This delayed transition to adulthood allows Gnomes to fully explore their interests, develop their skills, and find their place within society.   From the age of 100 to 150, Gnomes enter their middle age, during which they have accumulated decades of knowledge and expertise in their chosen pursuits. Gnomes are known for their meticulous nature and attention to detail, much like their Dwarven counterparts. They take their time to ensure that their work is of the highest quality and craftsmanship. However, Gnomes also know the importance of balancing work and play, and they carve out ample time for hobbies, fun, and enjoyment.   At the age of 150, Gnomes are considered elderly, having experienced a long and fulfilling life. Despite their advancing age, Gnomes retain their youthful spirit and enthusiasm for life. Their innate curiosity and love for new experiences keep them engaged in the world around them.   The twilight years of Gnomes begin around 200, where they may gradually withdraw from their more demanding endeavors and focus on leisure, personal enrichment, and passing down their knowledge and traditions to the younger generations. Gnomes in their twilight years often find joy in sharing stories, engaging in creative pursuits, and mentoring younger Gnomes.   Gnomes' ability to balance their dedication to work and their inclination for hobbies and fun highlights their unique approach to life. Their ability to find joy and fulfillment in both productive endeavors and leisure activities sets them apart and contributes to their overall contentment and satisfaction.
