The Trelawney Void

The Trelawney Void is an unfathomably deep mine shaft in the heart of the Bellever Mountains. Mined by an ancient dwarven clan long since forgotten, it is said to be bottomless as any attempt to fill it in as failed. Some even say it is the pit that was dug to create the very mountains under which it descends.

Surrounding the upper levels of the void, a corkscrew thread of a path encircles the shaft, descending several levels of the dwarven mines, the lowest so deep that you cannot see or hear the activity of the main level at the top, yet perhaps still not even a quarter of the depth of the void as far as anyone can measure.

The Void is said to have its own force; not quite a gravity, but an attraction, like Haematite. Pulling everything in towards it as though trying to slake an unyielding hunger. Such is the strength of this void, that the dwarves have developed a series of measures to ensure their kin do not succumb to the pull and enter the void forever.

Such measures include endless conversation within certain boundaries to distract from the pull, and normalising that everyone feels the pull sometimes and taking time away from the void to shake off the pull. Sadly, even with these measures in place, some dwarves do succumb to the pull; some descend down the coiled path, sometimes merrily, sometimes solemnly; others appear to have a burst of energy, and take a running leap into the void. None have ever returned.
