Bellever Mountains

The most prominent feature of the Belerion landscape, this mountain range is the natural border between the two regions of Aberfal to the west, and Tamaria to the east. Piercing the sky at over 45000ft above the sea, the snow capped peaks can be seen glinting from almost any distance in any direction.

Geography

The lofty white capped peaks atop the majestic blue-grey rocky slopes are world-renowned for the beuty with which they capture the sunlight: bright and fresh at sunrise, with the rocks taking on a warm orange hue; and dramatic and romantic at sunset, as shadows dance between the purple-toned slopes. The folded mountain range snakes across Belerion from the south coast to the north, and is in fact growing by up to three inches each year as the Aberfal and Tamarian plates converge.

Ecosystem

The huge volumes of snow that adorn the peaks hold enough freshwater that were they to melt, it would cause a flood so vast as to submerge all of Belerion underwater, desalinising the oceans and causing a mass extinction event.
As it is, all that freshwater is safely locked up in the ice, with most of the peaks at such an altitude as to never be near melting point. Nearer the bottom of the glaciers, however, several creatures have adapted to life in what could otherwise be described as frozen wastes. The Ice Badger, with its blue and white fur, is hard to spot against the ice as it carves out a set.

Climate

With prevailing winds from the southwest, there are five distinct climates across the mountain range: to the southwest, on the windward side, the foothills rise up out of the Pensan Rainforest; the northwest is a gradual climb from The Bodmany Wilds, with the hot desert winds of the Bodmany Desert making for a dry, arid climate; the northeast slopes are cooler and drier, eventually becoming suitable for the far reaches of the pines of the Tewledandar Forest; the southeast, or southern-facing slopes due to the curve of the range have a temperate climate, enjoying enough of a maritime breeze to maintain an adequate temperatures year round, with plenty of rain; the snowy peaks are so high that very little can exist there, with bitingly cold temperatures, thin air and no vegetation to speak of.
