Basic Information
This race has two arms and two legs. The legs are reverse-kneed much like a canine. Their skin is covered in a thin layer of minuscule scales that can seal within an instant, providing protection against a variety of threats. The skeletal structure is extremely dense so as to resist the terrific impacts that accompany this race's preferred method of combat. The race has four pairs of razor sharp canines to facilitate their reproduction.
Hematophagy. The race reproduces by the female taking a blood sample via their Eight sharp canines. This blood sample is processed into the egg of the female. A Feldvath pregnancy lasts 13 months. And can only happen to a female feldvath once every 7 years. The Feldvath can ingest blood directly, without using their fangs, to slowly incorporate new genetic strains into their own bodies instead so that they can store multiple strands of dna
The genetic structure of feldvathian DNA is a triple-helix. The data for any individual is contained within two main helixes while the third is used to store sampled DNA so that the bodies can analyze the genetics of their partner and fuse the third helix in where it is beneficial for their offspring.
The male Feldvath have 2 pairs or razor sharp canines. The males store beneficial genes from creatures they take blood from in order to refine multiple sets of genetics into one area. When the male and female Feldvath procreate, the female takes the genetic slurry from a small network of veins that circulate the slurry along a single path. This slurry very much resembles blood with the notable exception that it is much thicker.
The children with parents that are one Feldvath and some other race are always female while those with two Feldvath parents are split almost evenly male and female.
Gestation is roughly 13 months followed by a child life stage lasting approximately 13 years. Their adult stage lasts approximately 150 years after childhood. The elderly age bracket lasts approximately another 50 years after adulthood.
Childhood sees the maturation of psionic matrices and several sheddings of scales as the Feldvath achieves its full size. As adulthood begins, females of the race see their eight canines grow in and sharpen. Males of the species see dramatically increased muscle mass.
The Feldvath tend to live in coastal and swampy areas as their scaled skin is sensitive to temperature extremes in either direction. Their capability to seal their skin against parasites and liquids allows them to dwell in swamps without fear of infection or infestation.
The Feldvath are omnivorous and may sustain themselves by consuming any plant or animal matter they can ingest. For many of their settlements they survive on somewhat industrialized farming and the domestication of local cattle.
As they age the scaling of the Feldvath becomes more pronounced with elderly Feldvath having large, stiff scales almost everywhere on their body.
Seasonal changes include loosening and tightening of scales depndent on temperature, increased toxicity of saliva during the summer months, and their claws hardening to seemingly impossible levels during winter months.
Additional Information
Sight: the race can see energy being manipulated by psionics but have normal vision other than that.
Hearing: the auditory senses of the Feldvath are slightly more sensitive than a human’s. The increase is not enough to warrant a mechanical difference within an rpg system.
Smell: the race has a particularly keen sense of smell and can smell ‘beneficial traits’ from any other sentient nearby. This has become a point of contention between the feldvath and the humans as the ‘vath rarely breed with humans as there aren’t no biological merits to breeding with humans in the ‘vath’s Eyes.
Touch: their sense of touch is as sensitive as a human’s.
Taste: Their sense of taste, while odd, is just as powerful as a human’s.
Civilization and Culture
The Feldvath, possessing a naturally strong skill with telepathy, rarely use their own spoken language. The only people who use it frequently are outsiders who are not telepathic. Vathian is only spoken by its natives during formal ceremonies or in temples during worship.
Veneration for their prefered temperature and climate, probably heavy into animism.
Most Feldvath train in psionics from a very young age as their race has a genetic predilection for psionics. Almost every single Feldvath citizen will be some form of Mentalist. Feldvath that forsake their racial traditions are exceptionally rare and are generally ostracized.
The Feldvath believe in a vast number of gods and goddesses. Each settlement has a tendency to have one major deity that they worship as a whole. Most Feldvath households have a small shrine housing a statue they believe protects their home and family. There are frequently even shrines protecting neighborhoods and roads. Many cities house a large field full of small shrines venerating all of the major deities of the pantheon along with a temple nearby that is believed to protect the city. Smaller towns often have shrines set up in the wilds to placate particular spirits. Several of these spirits are known of in other lands and some are even venerated in other lands as their power is very easy to recognize.
Neutral with humans. If the humans try to enslave or conquer Feldvath lands, they respond with force.
The Humans often view the Feldvath as envoys of the god of luck. Throughout their shared history the Feldvath have proven they are wonderful allies and terrible enemies. One of the rarer psionic powers developed by some Feldvath is the ability to alter fate to be more favorable to them. As many humans only know of history and legends they view the Feldvath as a very dangerous race that should not be offended lest the lord of luck shun them.
Hostile with the Xith Tribes.
The Xith tend to be hostile to most races but are particularly so towards the Feldvath. The Xith view their tampering with nature as blasphemous to the extreme and have a habit of attacking any Feldvath settlement they happen upon in their nomadic wanderings. As a race the Xith do share some of the dread the humans show when dealing with the Feldvath. One of historical ballads of the Cold Witch Tribe speaks of a Feldvath captured in the raid of her village. The lone woman was tortured for the amusement of her captors. But no matter what they did to her there was a feral gleam in her eyes and a ghastly grin plastered on her face. Shortly after her torment began an illness took hold in the village but did not seem to touch the woman. The Xith were not surprised that some of their kin became ill as the weather during had turned foul throughout the swamps they were in. What did terrify the Xith was the rapidity of infection in the tribe and how swiftly the sickness took the lives of the infected. Normally the Xith would fight off the sickness unless they were terribly unlucky. They were.
