Common, but important magic

Magic in everyday life

Dealing with the mortal empires each country has a different take on magic and how much it is included in their society, except for the Dwarves of Hammerock magic has seeped into the daily lives of nearly every citizen of these countries. The commoner is not likely to have much in the way of magic, sometimes simple magical lights to mildly enchanted tools for craftsmen depending on how much money they have. Most people’s exposure to magic is in the form of local clerics, druids, or hedge wizards who are rarely able to do more than second circle spells.   Rhyderia and Ursand both have a close relationship with their respective druid circles, and it is not uncommon for initiates to be sent to aid farms to ensure their crops grow well or to treat sickened animals. Going back to a wider view most towns have a temple with at least one cleric able to tend to most injuries through both magical and mundane means and even able to remove most diseases and poisons provided they can tend the victim fast enough. This access to healing magics has greatly improved the lives of the commoners and all the way up to kings. However, should a disease be virulent enough to spread rapidly and kill quickly the lesser priests and druids would be ineffective at halting the progression of the plague simply because they cannot channel enough of those healing magics to help everybody.

What sort of magic might you find in a...

Town: In a small town you will likely see a few everburning torches or everburning enchantments on lamposts near a central well, the mayor's(or equivalent) office. Relatively simple magics and enchantments in a small scale will be present whichever can give the best benefit to a town without becoming too expensive. Anything smaller than a town is unlikely to have any public form of enchantments.   Small city: These will have more elaborate everburning torches able to turn themselves on and off depending on the light levels. There may even be areas you can use message spells through various services or items which are limited to the city itself or just outside it. Enchanted carts and wagons are exotic but not rare usually only the most successful merchants, business, or noble families can afford such things.   Large City: This is where magic can be seen on every corner from animated brooms sweeping up the streets and sidewalks to illusions performing advertisements on shop walls. The true extent depends on just where in the world you are, and most of the grandiose and overt displays are kept in the merchant districts and plazas. The further you stray away from such hubs of commerce the more toned down the magic tends to be filling a much more utilitarian purpose as opposed to being gawdy or showy. Noble estates almost always have magical servants doing the more laborious or tedious work while their livings ones tend to other more important duties. This is where the magical craftsmen usually find themselves when they need a place to work, the money and desire for their skills are just more present in the large cities as opposed to small towns. The only exception is those mage-crafters who are of such skill and renown that move to their own homestead and a small town forms around them.

Healing magic

Healing magic is an important aspect of life in the world aside from just those who adventure. In many ways most cultures focus on the use of magical healing and treat not magical medicine as something to help a person last long enough to get magical healing. The ability to cast healing magics comes from a being beyond the material plane, spirits, or nature itself in the case of druids and rangers. Healing magics require more celestial or profane energy to outweigh the other and skew the balance of the Arcane.   Sorcerers and Wizards both draw their magic from the Arcane in balance even if some of their spells can cause minor imbalances they start from the Arcane in balance. Bards are a unique case, and no one is quite sure just why they can circumvent this normal restriction, however, they say they are able to use the 'words of creation' through their songs.
