Archipelago of Treniere

The Turquoise Archipelago

JeneaH

Pronounced: Tren-near
Well-Known Creatures

Okaptos – An openly Rakshasa “Trade Lord” who oversees the main (North) island’s medium-sized town Okanawee, and only cargo/shipping industry. He specifically owns all of the larger trade ships allowed into the area, and has only recently been convinced to allow other ships to enter the harbor under strict guard, and heavy taxation.     “Aberdeen Shoals” Merfolk near the Northern Island   The Merfolk are well-known to trade with Okaptos and are particularly noted for their craftsmanship with sea materials, such as pearls, coral, and various colorful sea-creatures. Since sea turtles are seen as good luck, their shells are of particular value and are often inlaid with mother of pearl accents, making them incredibly rare and expensive on the open-market. They commonly keep Giant Seahorses as pets and trusted steeds.   Manauia the Black Havoc – Ancient Hydra on the Eastern Island that the Lizardfolk of the area venerate and leave offerings for.   Zehnah (sseh-nassh) – a Yuan-ti tribe who have primary control of the Western Island, where they subjugate the local Lizardfolk population and work with the Merrow. There is some rumor that they have struck a deal with Go-Rath to keep the Merrow in check, so as not to interfere with his trade. They breed and keep all kinds of snakes, both huge and small, on the island. The Western island is known as “The Slithering Isle."     Go-Rath who resides in a decrepit Yuan-ti temple near the middle of the Western island. The Zehnah avoid this Temple, since Go-Rath is actually the remains of a Yuan-ti Ur-Histachii** ** Undead: These doubly damned creatures did not require food or air and were placed inside sealed crypts or used to guard meetings, secret caches, and vaults. They could descend into a berserk rage when wounded in battle, and they tended to chew on carrion and small vermin when idle.   Delvolag – Behtu Troupe that reside on the only active volcanic island in the far South. There they build temples to their demon lord Mechuiti and are known to ride medium-sized Flame Drakes. Due to their chaotic evil nature, and overt hostility with homicidal tendencies, the volcanic island has been long abandoned to them. Luckily they are particularly afraid of the water, and will not willingly leave their island.

Geography

Common Sentient Creatures
1. Lizardfolk – Primarily found on the Eastern and Western Islands, these humanoids are notably in general contest with their Tabaxi neighbors for resources and living space where their territories cross over. Lizardfolk are suspicious, secretive, and generally seen as distasteful traders of false information and dishonest goods.   2. Tabaxi – Primarily found on the Northern and Eastern Islands, the nomadic “prides” are generally curious towards outsiders, willing to trade, and thrive on new or fantastic experiences/items.     3. Kenku – There is a small flock of these bird-like creatures that lives in close proximity to the ocean on the southern tip of the Northern Island. They are quite colorful in nature and use their feathers to craft ornate clothing and headdresses, which they trade with roving Tabaxi prides, who then take the items to the trade center of Okanawee.   4. Gnoll – Though not native to Treniere, it is said that a small war band of these hyena creatures was blown off course and ship-wrecked on the Eastern Island. Quickly running afoul of the great hydra Manauia, they were all but decimated in number. Over time they have made a small comeback, and are currently little more than a nuisance. They are hunted relentlessly by any Tabaxi pride who spots them.     5. Goblin – Unlike in many other areas, Goblins are seen as useful beings who willingly enter the few caves and mines that are scattered around the islands of Treniere. They are almost exclusively used by Okaptos’ network of traders as their labor force. Though not technically slaves, they work more as indentured servants, and the clever few who do manage to pay off their “life debt” are acknowledged in Okanawee as respected citizens.   6. Kobold – These small draconic beings are seen the same way most humans view rats: mostly a nuisance, but nothing worth the effort to exterminate. They are scattered throughout the entire island chain and ingratiate themselves to any specifically “mighty” being or creature in the area. They fanatically worship this being, and so each tribe is vastly different from the next.

Fauna & Flora

  • Rare/Exotic Wood (several tree/plant species are only found on the islands)

  • Ironbark Tree – Known for its incredible strength and solid consistency, can be used for armor and weapon construction

  • Mahogany – Known for its rich color, usually preferred for construction of water-born transportation

  • Treniere Blackwood – Known for its dark color, this wood is preferred for smaller use in musical instrument construction as well as pieces of great design, since the grain is particularly good at retaining the most meticulous of detailing

  • Sandalwood – Known for its lighter color and highly aromatic quality

  • Pink Ivory – Known for its bright Red to Pink coloration, primarily used for artful pieces and accent design
  • Purple Heartwoood – Known for its dark Pink to Purple coloration, primarily used for artful pieces and accent design

  • Bubinga – Known for its bright reddish/orange coloration, this wood is typically used to make instruments such as harps, and drums (it has a particularly mellow and well-rounded sound) as well as smaller craft pieces such as knife handles and tobacco pipes

  • Unusual/Rare Animals (used for their hides or as pets/exotic mounts)
    • Displacer Beasts – Mostly hunted and killed on the islands, these creatures run rampant and blend in with the naturally occurring felines of the area. Very few are ever sold alive, though there is great demand for their hide for its inherent magical properties.

    • Pseudodragon – These small “dragons” are hand-raised by a group of Tabaxi traders who sell them at great cost as pets – keeping hold of the creatures is a problem for their new owners to deal with.

    • Blink Dogs – Initially imported to help rid the islands of their Displacer Beast infestation, these canines have become more domesticated as the population of Displacer Beasts thinned. Now the dogs are tended to by a small group of Kenku who reside on the Northern Island, near the southern tip.
