Bavesis (Bah-VEY-sis)

Bavesis is the god of peace, the divine entity responsible for insisting that all creatures of Berth work together for the common good. Their aspects can be seen in literature depicting the gods as the one mediating disputes, calming the sometimes hot tempers of their companions, and ensuring that harmony reigns in heaven. It is Bavesis who depicted on their feet, helping Nione serve the assembled deities when the gods come together to feast, and it is Bavesis who stands beside Zoas to welcome the faithful into the afterlife. Their male aspect is the arbiter of divine arguments, while their female aspect encourages cooperation and mutual tolerance, even in the absence of fondness.

Divine Domains

Lord Bavesis watches over the mediation of disputes and ensures fairness in all things. He is the compassionate voice that softens Coznir's perfect law. Lady Bavesis is the god of cooperation, tolerance, and hospitality. She encourages her followers to open their homes and their hearts to the needy and downtrodden, and insists that this generosity be respected.  Clerics dedicated to Bavesis are in the domain of peace, and paladins swear oaths of devotion or redemption.

Holy Books & Codes

The personal word of Lord Bavesis is handed down in the Tome of Scales, a heavy volume filled with examples that set the precedent for hundreds of arbitrations, always keeping in mind both the law and the heart. Lady Bavesis offers a simple list of commandments known collectively as the Compassionate Prayer, which is inscribed above the mantle of many a home, hospital, and orphanage.

Divine Symbols & Sigils

Lord Bavesis is represented by a set of silver scales, sometimes depicted with a heart in one pan and a tome of law in the other, always perfectly balanced. Lady Bavesis is represented by an open doorway, or less often a steaming mug. This second symbol has been disputed recently, due to its easy association with inebriation, which is not encouraged by the Lady.

Holidays

The Festival of Bavesis marks the beginning of winter in much of the Imperium. Usually a few days before the first freeze of the year, this is a holiday dedicated to helping the hungry and housing the homeless, in preparation for the coming months of hardship. The faithful spend the day locating those most at risk of suffering in the approaching winter and invite these people into their homes for the season. It is not uncommon for a temple of Bavesis to be occupied by many impoverished families during the coldest weather each year.
