Dourmouth Flatlands

The Dourmouth Flatlands are the domain of the reclusive Air Genasi, whose resistance to Imperial rule continues to this day. Unlike their more amicable neighbors to the south (the Frost Elves), the Genasi are a proud people for whom warfare was a cultural staple--though, not in the way that most humanoids understand it. You see, the Air Genasi regularly opened portals into the elemental plane of air, releasing dangerous elementals and spirits into the material plane. They would then hunt these creatures across the length of the flatlands, capturing and destroying them at the end of a chase that might last days or even weeks. The process often resulted in the deaths of unprepared hunters, for these rituals continued even into the dead of winter.
Nowadays, the Chatia Empire has put a stop to such reckless and irresponsible practices. The Genasi have been allowed their freedom (though they are watched by Imperial lawkeepers, in order to prevent a return to their barbarous ways) provided that they adhere to the laws of the Empire like everyone else. Largely self-governing and self-sufficient, Dourmouth Province pays its taxes on time and politely but firmly asks the rest of the world to stay out. The only exception to this rule is the city of Riverdell, a human settlement within the limits of the flatlands which was granted sovereignty during the Age of Kings. Few now know the details of the treaty which arranged such a thing, because the Genasi of that period were no more united than most races, but no question has been raised as to the city's right to exist.
