Nione (Nee-OH-nee)

The god of life, Nione is the homemaker and healer of the pantheon. They are the one who breathed life into the world when it was new, granting the spark of animation to all of their fellow gods' creations. They are the god who tends the hearth and maintains the connections between disparate deities. In their female aspect, they watch over families and homes, ensuring prosperity and community for those who revere her. In their male aspect, they teach physicians their craft, and guard the interests of those who care for others with the intention of creating a wider society.

Divine Domains

Lady Nione is the goddess of home, hearth, family, and reproduction. It is she who kneels at the beds of laboring women and nurses their infants through their first breath. She is the one who blesses loving families with bountiful harvests and beneficial marriages for their children, and who ensures that the bonds of love between blood relatives remain strong across generations. Lord Nione is the god of healing, charity, and the work that goes into creating a larger family out of one's community. His followers find him in every selfless act one does to help the poor, sick, and downtrodden. He returns threefold any resources spent caring for those who cannot care for themselves. Clerics of Nione are clerics of the life domain, and paladins swear oaths of devotion or of redemption.

Holy Books & Codes

Lady Nione's word can be found in The Culilogue, which is essentially a cookbook, though the recipes are nestled in anecdotes from the life of a woman known only as Nione's First Prophet. These stories are often parables meant to instruct the lives of her followers. Lord Nione's scripture is a miraculous medical tract which updates itself as new discoveries in the treatment of diseases are made. This divine text somehow records all the world's medicinal knowledge within its pages, and is housed in the High Hospital in New Solaria. It is called The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual for Bodily Health: Ultimate Edition. Many priests and doctors shorten this title to the DSM:U, for ease of reference.

Divine Symbols & Sigils

Lady Nione is represented by a fire in a hearth, or by three sets of clasped hands. Lord Nione is represented by a cluster of lavender flowers or rose hips, but most frequently by some of both.

Tenets of Faith

  • All life is sacred
  • To love another person is to see the face of the heaven
  • Do unto others as you would have them do unto you
  • Take only that which you can replace
  • Lady Nione:
  • Family is the foundation of personhood
  • Family doesn't have to be related by blood
  • A home is a place with the people you love
  • Lord Nione:
  • Help the helpless, heal the hurting
  • Compassion for others is the first step on the path to heaven
  • You cannot pour wine from an empty cup; care for yourself first
  • Holidays

The fall equinox, which usually occurs at the end of the growing season and the beginning of harvest time, is the day dedicated to Nione. This celebration of life, family, and unity usually takes the form of a community-wide ritual dance, which involves colorful banners being wound around a tall tree or post. It is said that those unwed young people who find themselves tangled together in the banners despite their best efforts to dance the ritual correctly will fall in love and have a long and happy marriage.
