The Chattering City

Home to the majority of Berth's kenku population, the Chattering City is a trade hub central to Pripya, Kefdolit, and Khidora Provinces. It has remained neutral in most conflicts in the past two ages, and provides a haven for anyone who wants one, so long as residents maintain the peace within the its borders.
Largely decentralized, The Chattering City was once a collection of nests and huts which have, over time, morphed into the sprawling market-town that now covers a large portion of the mountain slope on which it rests. The kenku of the city raise their children communally, so it is not uncommon to see a gaggle of young kenku wandering around, picking through piles of shiny treasures, and cheerfully repeating words to each other. A kenku is considered to have come of age when they have acquired a working vocabulary of 25,000 words. The chicks learn words by mimicking their elders, as well as strangers passing through. This gives kenku a strange but distinct mode of communication with other kenku; as a greeting, they tend to share words that they like and explain the definitions. By the time they're adults, any given kenku will have a thousand different voices to work with, not to mention sounds from nature, magic, and machinery.
Kenku magic is also distinctive. Due to the influence of the Hero Kalaka Kaliki and her mentor Erdithas Mossrest, magic learned in The Chattering City leans heavily towards evocation and conjuration, with a unique blending of the two which is taught only here. Wizards who have studied in the Chattering City can usually be identified by the crow feathers added to their clothing or arcane focuses, which are granted to successful students of the Hero's magical style.
