The Grave Depths
The Grave Depths are an uncommonly deep area of ocean around the island of Zoasir, on which rests the pious settlement of Drifandi. The waters here are cold, but rich in mineral nutrients which drift up from the ocean floor. Scholars speculate that there are thermal vents at the bottom of the trenches surrounding the island, but expeditions to map the depths are unusually prone to accident. Further investigation is generally regarded by the residents of Zoasir as a bad idea, and scholarly attempts to launch expeditions are met with disdain and discouragement. Seeing as Zoasir is so far from any other landmass, the support and cooperation of the island's people is of vital importance to the success of any such expedition, and so exploration has been suspended indefinitely.
