The Shieldwall Mountains

The Shieldwall Mountains divide the continent of Eribax into its two distinctive halves; the Willingtry Riverlands to the north, home of the Halflings, and The Hissing Wastes to the south, where dwell the Orcs and the Desert Elves. These mountains are the geographic feature whose rain shadow keeps the Wastes a desert, and whose bulk sends the seasonal rains back down into the Riverlands. The Shieldwall itself is only sparsely inhabited by a single Orcish tribe, driven north out of the Wastes by its competitors. This tribe has taken up goat herding, and is the primary source of high-quality goat cheeses. There's really not much else to eat, as the Shieldwall Mountains are too dry on the southern side and too steep on the northern to support much life.
