The Fae Court

The king of the Fae is Oberon, Lord of Mistas De Saard and Voice of Winter to the Fae Court. His spouse, Titania is Queen of the Fae and Voice of the Summer to the Fae Court. She is said to be a very proud creature and as much of a force to contend with as her husband.

Structure

The Fae Court itself is actually made up of two distinct courts; the Summer Court and the Winter Court. Fae politics are intricate matters full of shifting alliances and political intrigue due in no small part to the cycle of nature that distinguishes each Court.

The Summer court and those born to it focus on creation, renewal, flourishing, sustainment, maintenance, and preserving the fragile nature of life. They tend to be very light- and life-centric in that many of them perceive love, light, goodness and other positive values as essential in fostering life. Summer Fae can also be somewhat arrogant and hedonistic, but they generally don’t derive much pleasure from another’s expense.

The Winter court and those born to it focus on natural destruction, hibernation, decay, and the recovery period between death and rebirth. They can be somewhat dark, melodramatic, brooding, and death-centric. Winter Fae tend to be subtly manipulative, preferring to arrange things in their favor without anyone else noticing.

Autumnal Fae tend to prefer comfort and warmth over revels. They are generally the most trusted of the Fae tribes. Their straightforward and honest nature leaves little room for subterfuge. The other Fae tribes often look to Autumn to mediate disputes. Autumnal Fae should not be underestimated though, theirs is a season of storms and change representing tremendous potential beneath their placid calm.

Brownies, hobbits, and gnomes tend to ignore courtly politics altogether, though they do live by their court’s philosophy.

Aes Sídhe, Nyads, dryads, sprites, and other Fae that are more directly tied to nature tend to view court intrigue as irrelevant to the cycle of nature, and they will help those who respect them and tend their lands regardless of the Court’s machinations.
