Svartalfar Costume & Physreps
The Svartalfar are only found on Svartalfheim. They live within their own warren-like cities, leaving the wilds of the rest of the realm to those Human and Jotunborn refugees that arrived after Ragnarok. They are an ancient race and longer-lived than Humans (approximately 200 years).
For all Svartalfar the minimum physrep requirement are:
elven style ear prosthetics to be worn as part of any costume. These are ‘regular’ elven style ears. Please avoid the longer anime style versions.
Colour tint on the skin, of either yellow or grey tones, as shown in the images below.
Indented ridge as described below.
Svartalfheim is the ancestral home of the Svartalfar, where they alone lived before Ragnarok. They trade sparingly and expensively with the other Races of the higher realms and mainly keep to themselves.
Kit & Makeup
Clothing:
The clothing of the Svartalfar may look quite uniform; smithing requires hard wearing materials and leather. However, not all Svartalfar are smiths, contrary to popular belief and they can be as extravagantly dressed as their Alfar cousins, though usually not as bright. A lot of Svartalfar like colours that remind them of fire, even if they are not smiths themselves.
Facial Markings:
Though their facial lines are actually part of their skin, looking like an indented ridge, these can vary quite a lot from Svart to Svart. They come in straight angular lines across the face, most prominently on the cheeks. No two Svarts are born with the same markings, and so it’s as identifiable as a finger print is on a Human.
This can be accomplished by using makeup, or for a better effect substances such as rigid-collodion, or prosthetics can be used to create the effect.
These photos show the colouration as full face. This is the extreme; players may opt to only have the colouration on parts of the face, such as the eyes, hairline, under the skin, inside the fingers, etc.
Attitudes
The Svartalfar are very insular, and have the realm-wide belief that they are the smartest of all the races of the nine realms. Their attitude to the other races is the same; they matter little to us, unless they are of use to us. This goes for Human, Jotunborn, their racial cousins the Alfar, as well as the Gods themselves; the Aesir and the Vanir. When you know your craft-work is sought after by everyone from both the Human Kings and the Aesir on Asgard, the royal family of Alfheim, and even the now elusive Vanir who withdrew from Vanaheim society, they have developed a slight superiority complex.
Naturally, there are some Svartalfar who have a more enlightened view, though they are the minority.
