Dark Noon at Follyfield
General Summary
May 1 - Ammy, Jane, Ladybird, & Wags
Party was alerted to an errand that Jericho needed done in an overrun settlement on the west side of the river. After scouting the ruined town out, the party entered, and soon afterwards realized that they had triggered what remained of the wards - wards that were no longer keeping undead out, but allowing them to function during the daytime. The party decided to quickly retreat, but discovered that the wards were also barring the living from leaving, trapping them inside.
However, they had maintained a low-profile approach, maintaining invisibility and silence spells, and managed (after taking out a small horde of skeletons and zombies) to make their way to the dilapidated church overlooking Follyfield, where they guessed the wards were centered.
Approaching the church, they found its interior shrouded in shadow, and after a brief discussion Jane went in, as the least likely to be affected by necromantic energies. She approached the orb of shadow on the altar, grabbed the thing in the middle (a silver coin, it turned out), and an invisible presence insisted she leave it be so that it could be “dealt with.” Jane offered to take it outside so that the wards would cease functioning, and then let whatever else was in the church do it’s thing, and the voice said “... okay fine,” or some approximation thereof.
Jane, thinking better of the decision, decided that she’d rather drink the magic energy out of the coin, and melted it down as she was leaving. In the process, the coin radiated multiple pulses of necrotic energy, slightly damaging Jane and nearly knocking out the invisible presence, which (after its invisibility spell failed) turned out to be a Cassisian angel. It made vague threats about “heaven wiping the world clean” or something, and flew away.
Melting the coin also destroyed the wards’ power source, allowing sunlight to fall on the undead that had congregated in Follyfield, paralyzing them. The party recovered the deed, put the paralyzed undead to rest, collected rotblossoms from them, and dug through the houses for any mementos or keepsakes that various townsfolk might want back. They delivered the keepsakes, then brought the deed and rotblossoms to Jericho in Bridgetown.
