Magic Item Attunement
All non-consumable magical items draw from the power of their user in order to generate magical effects, even when they are not being actively used. Such items attune to their user when activated or equipped, and continue to count as attuned for 24 hrs after the last time their wielder has gained the benefit of the item. Items which generate purely passive effects do not attune automatically when picked up; the wielder must intentionally activate the item in order to gain any benefit from it. For example, a Deadly sword does not instantly attune, you need to intend to use the weapon. An amulet that increases Resolve does not provide its bonus or attune until the user actually invests a minor action into attuning.
People only have so much metaphysical energy to support such items; as someone grows in personal power, the number and potency of the items they can safely attune to at a single time increases.
The “power” of an item is determined by its wealth level, and they are divided into three tiers: Minor (WL 0-4), Medium (WL 5-7), and Major (WL 8+). The number and power of items a character can attune to is determined by their level, as described in the table below:
