Nuglub
Nuglub gremlins believe themselves to be the pre-eminent gremlins, at the top of the gremlin hierarchy. They’re right, though not for any reason other than the fact that they’re the variety of gremlin that’s most driven to pummel, claw, and murder their way through the hierarchy until they are in charge. A nuglub’s personality is unswervingly devoted to three things: murder, making life miserable for those within their band who aren’t as high-ranking as they are, and figuring out how to take the reigns of leadership and ensure that no other nuglub can make them miserable. Nuglubs are the only universally social gremlin, in that no nuglub will go off to cause mayhem on their own; they will always take one or more other gremlins (or, in a pinch, a mite slave or two) with them to use as punching bags and/or scapegoats.
Nuglubs vary considerably in height. The youngest that are seen by mortals are barely six inches tall, while the eldest - dubbed “Greater Nuglubs” by exterminators - can reach almost a yard in height. They are hunched, with a disgustingly dirty mane of dark blue hair covering their eyes and running in a line down their backs. Their faces are a disturbing blend of human and horse, with a bulbous muzzle, large flaring nostrils that ooze snot, crooked and broken fangs, and a trio of piercing sapphire-blue eyes hiding behind their bangs. Their arms are spindly but deceptively strong, and end in gnarled with jagged horn-like fingernails. Their skin color grows paler as they age, ranging from a pitch black in the youngest to a pale, almost-white grey among the eldest.
A nuglub’s magic is relatively simple in nature, but still makes them incredibly dangerous to individuals or small groups. If a nuglub catches the eye of a creature, its magic renders that creature sluggish and unable to look away from the nuglub’s gaze, making it incredibly difficult for the victim to defend themselves against the rest of the nuglub’s band. Though this magic can be shrugged off by a strong will, many a village has found a villager beaten and clawed to death on the edge of the forest, having fallen victim to a piercing blue stare and a dozen tiny thugs.
