Papalotl
Hungering Leaves, Mantis-Moths.
These insects flutter through the air on 5-foot-long wings, surveying their surroundings through a single large compound eye that stretches across the upper portion of their head. A collection of barbed pedipalps make up the creature's mouthparts; they are kept folded up in a cluster the size of a basketball underneath its head until it attacks, at which point they can lash out at the creature's prey up to a yard away. The serrated barbs serve to both rip through flesh and grapple the moth to its prey. Once attached, the moths will continue to rip their prey apart by flexing their pedipalps, embedding new barbs at the same time that the previously-attached ones tear great bleeding wounds on their way out.
Like their smaller cousins, they have a fascination with fire and other light sources. Unlike their cousins, they are somewhat resistant to fire, though not to lightning or light-based attacks. Their other weakness is water - they remain ground- and tree-bound when wet, and will attempt to find thick foliage to hide within during the frequent rainstorms within the Screaming Dark, in order to be able to hunt from the air soon after the storm has passed.
Their last unusual trait is the lightening magic within their wing-scales. This both makes their flight possible and can be used to aid in the creation of items or enchantments that reduce a creature or object's weight.
