The Round Earth Theory

Throughout the Known World, general ignorance of The World Beyond and the ostensibly deceptive positioning of the Sun and stars around the Planar Center led many scientists to conclude that the world they live on is in fact a sphere floating through a vast void of nothingness. The Round Earth theory rejects the existence of The Ice Wall and anything Beyond, chalking it up to legend, rumors, or misconceptions.

Summary

Since the Round Earth theory asserts that the world is a sphere with limited surface area, the infinite plane of The Boundless Expanse does not exist beyond the Ice Wall. The Ice Wall itself would not exist, and the world would loop in on itself at that point. Expeditions to the south would invariably end up travelling north with time. The point at which south changes to north is referred to as the South Pole, to contrast with the Innerworlder term for the Planar Center, the North Pole.
The purported globe of the world is stated to be floating in an endless void of space. Gravity, instead of falling in one direction, affects objects spherically, and falls towards the center of the globe. The Sun and stars are also globes that function in this way, but instead of being made of earth and water, they are made of fire, and cannot be visited safely. Additionally, inhospitable globes of rock and gas known as planets pepper the starscape and circle around the Sun and stars, but they cannot be seen from the night sky.

Historical Basis

Without explicit knowledge of the Ice Wall and the World Beyond, it is difficult to refute the evidence supporting the Round Earth Theory. The position and movement of the Sun and similar objects in the sky is entirely consistant with where it should be located on a spherical world, but this is due to the strange and impalpable properties of the sun and how it can appear to be in conflicting positions based on the observer's location, and not because the sun is a physical object

The earliest documented mention of the Round Earth theory dates around 5th century B.C. in writings by Greek philosophers.

The Round Earth theory is widespread throughout the Known World due to its apparent support by science, but its belief has started to decline since the invention of the Horthall Galleon.

Variations & Mutation

There is no general consensus for the true relationship between the globe and the Sun. Some assert that the globe rotates around the Sun similarly to planets, while others assert that the Sun rotates around the globe.
The Ice Portal theory is a variation that attempts to incorporate Round Earth theory with the existence of the Boundless Expanse, and states that somewhere near the South Pole is an invisible portal that transports one to the Ice Wall located on infinite flat plane of the Expanse.
