The Whisperwood

Overview

The Whisperwood is a dense, foreboding forest in the Western Marches, known for its eerie atmosphere and dangerous inhabitants. The forest is a place of mystery and legend, where the line between the natural and the supernatural is often blurred. Travelers entering the Whisperwood are advised to tread carefully, as the forest holds many secrets and perils.

Geography

The Whisperwood is characterized by its thick canopy of ancient trees, which casts the forest floor into perpetual twilight. The ground is often covered in a thick layer of moss, and a damp, heavy mist frequently shrouds the undergrowth. Narrow, winding paths crisscross the forest, but they are treacherous and can easily lead travelers astray. The Whisperwood is bordered by rugged hills to the north and west, with the heart of the forest being the darkest and most dangerous.

Flora and Fauna

The Whisperwood hosts a variety of unique plant and animal life. The forest is dominated by twisted oaks and towering pines, their branches interwoven to form a nearly impenetrable canopy. Glowing mosses and venomous toadstools thrive in the shadows, adding to the forest's otherworldly feel. The wildlife includes wolves, giant spiders, and other predators that stalk the forest floor. More sinister still are the rumors of fey creatures and malevolent spirits that haunt the deeper parts of the wood.

Notable Locations

The Old Watchtower
Rising from the heart of the Whisperwood, this crumbling stone tower was once a beacon of protection for the region. Now in ruins, it serves as the base of operations for the Crow’s Nest, as well as a "sturdy" foundation for the Rickety Inn. The tower is a dangerous place, filled with traps and hidden dangers known only to the members of the guild.   Rickety Inn
Located on the edge of the Whisperwood, built in and against the crumbling base of the Old Watchtower, this inn is a refuge for rogues, ruffians, and adventurers alike. Despite its dilapidated appearance, the inn is a hub of activity, where deals are struck, and information is traded. The inn is notorious for its dangerous clientele, and it serves as a waypoint for those seeking shelter from the dangers of the forest.   Forest Crypt
Deep within the Whisperwood lies the Forest Crypt, an ancient, overgrown burial site that is cursed and avoided by the locals. The crypt is said to be the resting place of forgotten nobles and warriors, but the dead do not rest easy here. The crypt is a labyrinth of stone and roots, where dark magic lingers, and malevolent spirits are said to guard the tombs.   Eirlys's House
Near the Forest Crypt, hidden within the depths of the Whisperwood, is the secluded grove of @eirly, an elf druid who has lived in the forest for a long time. Eirlys's grove, centered around an ancient weeping willow, is a place of natural beauty and power. Eirlys herself is a guardian of the Whisperwood, and while she is wary of outsiders, she may offer guidance or aid to those who respect the forest.
"In the Whisperwood, the trees have eyes, the shadows have teeth, and the wind whispers secrets best left unheard."
