Shavoyī Tidat (/ʃɒˈvoʊjiː.ˈtɪdɒt/)

Ŗash struggled with the near-lifeless body of of long-time friend and companion Qotauk. The sands behind them were dotted and streaked with the blood of Qotauk.   "Worry not, dīkīr. We will soon be at kai tidat." The words escaped with effort. They were as much for Ŗash as for his friend.
Ŗash blinked his eyes open. Natural stone, draped with the elaborate patterns of traditional Kaushan rugs, was lit with a gently flickering light. The young man sat up rapidly, looking about with a spinning head. "Qotauk!"   "If you mean your companion, he is safe, his wounds treated. You just made it to the outer boundary before collapsing."
Shavoyī Tidat (literally isolated place of safety) is a small settlement centered on a small outcropping of rock in the middle of the Great Desert. The outcropping hides the entrance to an extensive cave system.   Deep within the caves is a small lake of crystal clear water, fed by an underground spring.   The residents of the settlement are primarily members of the Raiyīŗ tribe of the Kaushan people. There are a small number, usually not much more than about 20, of permanent residents. Usually these are older individuals, or those with debilitating injuries. They maintain the residences within the caves. At any given time, no more than a few dozen individuals are present from any of the four families of the Raiyīr. They are here to protect the tidat from outsiders and to provide aid to the more permanent residents.   The stores of the tidat are replenished by regular visits from the other members of the tribe.   Established during the early wanderings of the Kaushan, the area around Shavoyī Tidat cannot support much more than several dozen people. Thus, it was established as a temporary resting area available to all Kaushan. It remains neutral safe haven for any Kaushan from the tribes and Principalities. Outsiders are refused entry, unless grievously injured or if they are able to present a token from one of the tribes or principalities, demonstrating their friendship and trust.
